2 MFW-15s versus 2 PB-12 Pluses versus 2 VTF3-MK3s

I am looking for advice regarding subs for an HT setup. I plan to use two subs. The HT room is 18 X 24 feet in size with 10 foot ceilings. It is important that the subs are have a reddish wood finish to match the Rocket speakers that I am pairing with them. I want to keep the cost for the subs around $2000.

I have narrowed it down to the following:

2 AV123 MFW-15s
2 SVS PB12 Pluses
2 HSU VTF3-MK3s

Any thoughts on how these subs compare? They will be used almost exlusively for movies. Thanks!

If the don't buy AV123 thread has missed your radar read it.

I bet you will be down to 2 choices.

If your willing to drive arizona member is selling his subs for a sick price. They are better than the subs you listed.

Not to get off topic in the 3rd post of this thread, I heard AV123 was finally starting to deliver the orders they had backlogged. At least, it seems that way in the "Don't buy AV123 thread".

Yes but I don't think the MFW amp issue has totally been resolved.

Depends on how fast you want to buy.

I'm one of the few with dual MFW-15s in a room about the same size. Can't believe how good they sound. AV123's Rosewoods will be a perfect match. Call them for the latest info.

Even as an SVS guy, I'd look at a pair of Epik Sentinels, Dragons and/or Phoenixes as the budget allows.

OP, AV123 has had major quality control problems with the MFW. In the second batch of amps produced there is an estimated defect rate upwards to 50%. Apparently they are in the process of solving this issue. Some people are on their 4th or 5th replacement amp. I know I would want to buy a product that is more reliable. I am sure you are aware of their recent customer relations nightmare as well. I don't think you can go wrong with your other 2 choices.

Not a single vote for the HSUs?
Look you can't really make a wrong choice here. Unless you buy the B word.

Honestly any of these subs will do the job. Pick the one that fits your setup best and move on. The differences are too small to fret over IMO.

I second Bugbitten here. I also have dual MFW-15s in a room slightly bigger than yours and they sound incredible...no quality control issue for me either. Perfect companion to the rockets you already have and they really hit you hard when watching movies!

Go with the SVS subs, you will get a 5% discount for buying two, just give them a call and they will hook you up.

I would have suggested those too but he specified they needed to match his mains as much as possible.
Didn't see that...ok back to the Pluses ;).

As much as anyone, I'd like av123 to put this mess behind them, but with this economy, the hit the company must have taken on cash flow, pretty much everything recommends that one be cautious about ordering from them. It obviously compounds the problem for them when people take a "wait and see" attitude. It's just a tough situation for the company. It's a tough situation for those that are still waiting.

I really haven't been in the HT loop for a while. It is a shame what's been happening with AV123. I have purchased a few products from them over the years, including a mfw-15(no problems with mine after a year and a half).

To the OP: I guess you have your reasons for wanting 2 subs. One SVS ultra13 might do the trick. I have owned the pb12-plus, vtf-3 mkII, and now the mfw-15. They have all been setup in my 15 x 22 x 9 listening area that opens up to 2 other rooms. They have all sounded good, but I personally would give the nod to the mfw-15 for sounding the best. I don't think you can go wrong in which ever direction you go.

I would go with two MFW-15s. Dual MFWs tied the PB-13 Ultra on Craigsub's rankings. Considering now you can get two MFWs shipped for considerably less than one PB-13 that's what I would go with.

I like the two sub option as well for a smoother room response (with good placement).

Given the awesome deal av123 is having on the MFW-15 currently, I've decided to go with dual A-stock MFWs in rosewood. It's a gamble given their recent past, but I'm willing to give them a chance.
