While we're at it, thinking big, how about a rear projection system for nighttime outdoor pool watching? :D

Dawg, is there a very large paned window easily viewable from where the pool will be? :D

No electronics will be outside, except perhaps for a pair of outdoor speakers. :)

I suppose there might be an outside chance of using the same PJ for both indoor/outdoor, but you'll have to play with zoom, shift, and PJ orientation each time. Then again, the latest Panny's have programmable preset zoom + focus. :D edit: oh yeah, you'd have to "flip" image each time too, unless you don't care about mirror image.

:eek::cool::)

Or just get a cheapo PJ for the application. :D

Seriously though.

Cool evening in the winter after a hard day's work. Margarita on the rocks. Hot tub. Monday Night Football on a 100" screen. :D

I just spoke with the guys from Stewart and this stuff is freakin' awesome!

http://www.stewartfilmscreen.com/residential/materials/rear_projection_screen_materials_rigid/starglas_60/starglas_60_residential.html

This stuff is a deep dark glass, rear projection material, which is structurally sound.

So, for the pool, you just take the pool house and put a projector in it with a 100"+ sheet of StarGlas 60 in the window. No other light in the room, and a decently high lumen projector...

http://www.projectorcentral.com/Optoma-TX1080.htm

Reports are that this is actually DAYTIME viewable with this screen and proper light control in the environment.

DOPE!

(Note: StarGlas retails at $300 a square foot - 100" diagonal = $9,000ish)

Ok, BMX, that is just baller. I gotta tell my AV installer friend about this product. Do you anticipate ever working on any kind of install like that?

Baller.

Really hard to say. I would love the opportunity to do a nice theater with this as the rear projection material or to put it into an installation similar to what I described above. It's really on builders and such to get the building up around a piece of glass like this, but it would be a pleasure to work on something so nice and to pair it with a top quality projector.

The Optoma listed is a cheap model, but would do well for the $$$, but to put it with a Digital Projection 3,000 lumen 1080p model would be incredible. Also run about $50K or so between the projector and the screen alone, but for those who do have that type of cash, it would be a very fun setup.

Throw in a Crestron waterproof remote and you can be sippin' on the drinks IN the pool while controlling everything.

You would need some good climate control. It can get mighty hot around here.
