I wanted to bring a little FYI out there that any of us with older generation of players may be running out of luck. I purchased Rise of the Lycans yesterday and spent about an hour trying to get it to play.

In the end I had no luck. I have the latest firmware and have not had issues with other new releases (last purchase Quantum of Solace). I checked over at AVS on the dedicated Samsung 1400 thread and I am not the only one.

I'm only a little bitter that my window for the Oppo has passed (until it is released for everyone) and that the studios are not keeping up support for older players.

I will be searching now before I buy a new movie to see if others have had issues playing it.

Maybe this would be a good place for anyone who has a problem with a certain player and a movie to put it here to keep us all informed.

Well I just called Oppo and begged to be put back on the list and ordered my BD-83 which will ship next week.

Good deal. I tried out all kinds of discs over the last few days and have not had a problem with any so far.

After last nights frustration and reading your impressions on the Oppo thread I just felt it had to be done. I'm going to move my 1400 to the living room and sell my Denon 1920 and Oppo 980 to recoup some of the cost.

Why not just rent the movie first to make sure picture and sound rocks and that it obviously plays before a purchase.

Well for one I live about an hour minimum to the nearest location that rents blu-ray and two I am done with Netflix after they made it a premium to rent high def formats. I must say this particual choice was an impulse buy but the fact it did not play pushed me over with the 1400.
