I just killed a freakin huge spider that was stalking me like in Aracnaphobia. WTH man...I hate those dang things and they are the only insect or animal that I hate. I cannot believe how fast this thing was going. It was about 1 1/2 inch body and was stalking me as I was trying to kill it with my Birkenstock. I am now going to check my bed and everything else since I have been gone for a few days. I feel like a creeped out little girl....

I’m thinking about getting my 10 year old daughter (who’s also afraid of spiders) a T-shirt that reads:

“The only thing we have to fear is fear itself”

And spiders

But hey, spiders are just harmless little critters man

If the spider isn't big enough to carry you away, it's not much of a spider.

They taste like crab.

Jamie, we have plenty of spiders here too. However, the one I fear the most is the Brown Recluse aka "The Fiddler". The reason being, on its back it looks like a fiddle. Don't be fooled, the Brown Recluse is a very cocky spider and will NOT run away. It will, however, hold its ground and they are highly venomous. Trust me, they are all over the place. Just scares me to death thinking about it. Hopefully, you won't come across one of them. The Black Widow is another one not to mess with as well. Hope all is well otherwise my friend.

Cheers,

Phil

I wonder if brown recluses ever climb onto the roof and sing about being rich.

Oh, those kind of spiders. I was thinking this was about the NASdaq Spidr that has been recovering nicely. Guess I need to get out more often.

Anything that eats mosquitoes is a friend of mine :)

If you want to get rid of them, put some cedar wood in your ventilation system or around the house. It not only smells good but keeps a lot of bugs away. I don't believe spiders are directly affected, but spiders only go where there are other bugs to eat.

Nah Brown Recluses are overrated.

Try scorpions. Now those hurt like a you know what. And are armed to the tooth. We used to check our beds every night for them. Talk about shivers up the spine. We bombed the house twice due to our fears.

Last week I went to pick up a hat that was sitting on the post of my bed by my head. This hat has been sitting here for several weeks. I picked it up and something fell out on to my hand. I looked down and it was a very large, healthy black widow. Now that scared the crap out of me! I quickly shook my hand and it fell on the floor and I stomped it with my shoe. If it had been a regular spider, I would not have been so bothered... but that was a surprise!

The week before that I found a brown recluse in my car, crawling over my jacket sitting in the passenger seat. I squashed that little fellow as well.

I really hate spiders. But this comes down to a child hood trauma kind of thing. When I was about 15-16, every night for about 6 months I had new bloody spots on my legs EVERY night. My legs looked like a bloody buffet, with little scabs/scars all over them. Well, one night my dad came in my room and set his work clothes down on my bed as he talked to me. After he finished, he picked the clothes back up and walked out and I saw this huge hairy gray spider on them. Well, we killed it and I never again received new scars/marks on my legs. It appears that this spider had been feeding on me every night for several months! Ever since that child hood incident I have hated spiders.

As a kid, I also was terrified of spiders, then my grandmother came up with an idea. She said for every spider I killed and showed her, she would give me a quarter (back in the early 70's that was a lot to a kid) and my need for greed far exceeded any fear I may have had. So I went on the "spider hunt" and soon enough my fears of spiders was gone. What was funny is months later my twin sister woke me up and said there was a spider above her bed on the cieling and she would give me a quarter to kill it. So I said sure. Jumped on her bed and smashed the spider flat and left it there hanging. My sister is screaming for me to get rid of it and I told her while holding my newly earned quarter, that I was paid 25 cents to kill it. Removing it would cost her $5.00. She sat there jaw agape and I started to walk away. Let's just say it was the easiest $5.25 I ever made. :D

LOL I have been thru every inch of this place and today I am sealing up any outside cracks I have with silicone. I know, I know Dave I am a little girl but with a size 12 shoe for those pesky critters I will be just fine......spiders suck...well they do control the insect population.....:D

This was outside my sliding door to the back yard. You would have walked right into it if you were not looking very closely.

One of my employee's brother died a few years back from Brown Recluse bites. He fell asleep on his boat while he was refurbing. He had well over 100 bites all over his body. Granted, he was drunk and passed out on the boat before getting bit.

Loserwife was bit on the back of her leg about two years ago. It only recently healed. Left an open wound in the back of her calf.
