I actually killed two black widows in the past week (one this past weekend who made a web on the cieling of my balcony and the other this morning (a baby BW in the corner of my shower).
When I was a teenager one of the coolest "fights" I ever saw was between a scorpion and a tarantula. My folks live in Tucson where both are common and my folks have a sliding glass door next to the kitchen, so one night, I was eating a snack and glanced outside just as the two were approaching each other. Called the whole family in and money was laid down. The fight took about 15 minutes and the scorpion won after pinning two of it's legs with its pinchers and quickly stung the tarantula three times in rapid succession (I mean it was lightening quick) the scorpion held onto it for a few more minutes till the tarantula was paralyzed, then the scorpion just carted off the paralyzed spider. The tarantula was about 3 times the size of the scorpion mind you. But was very cool to watch in person. BTW I lost, I though the spider would win and it held off the pinchers with it's legs for awhile.
