I recently bought a new svs system consisting of this- scs mains, pc-12nsd, and center channel scs. i also preordered the towers, and want to buy some cables that will do my system justice, so i need help on which ones to buy. i have a pioneer elite vsx-01 reciever, and need to know.

so should i just order 5 cables off the svs site, or any other good cables out there.

Welcome to the forum! Congratulations on your new gear.

I fall into the camp that thinks that speaker wire doesn't affect the sound - as long as you get the proper gauge. To check which gauge to buy, I suggest looking at the site linked here. You can get well-made speaker wire for not much money at several places. Monoprice.com is one, Home Depot is another.

I bought one of SVS's Better Cables subwoofer cables for my Ultra, mostly because of "insurance." They told me that it wouldn't sound any better than any other good RCA cable (such as those sold at Monoprice for a lot less), but that they had never had a sub get damaged because a Better Cable had failed (such as the cable coming lose from one of the end connectors). So, I ponied up the cash and bought one. I do think that a cable from Monoprice or any other good one that you have around the house would work just fine, though.

Not familiar with the gear you've listed but I can say categorically that speaker cable absolutely CAN (not does) affect the sound of your system. I go into some details of this in another thread.

People seem to have different experiences of this and I'm convinced it depends on the quality of your gear and how well educated your ear is. That's different from saying how good your hearing is. I can't consciously hear much above 15kHz but I can hear many things that others don't seem to be able to. This comes simply from learning how to listen and what to listen for. I don't believe it's particularly difficult, just a matter of understanding in my view.

I would strongly suggest the heaviest gauge twisted pair cable you can get that's reasonably priced. I've just installed the best sounding cable I've yet experienced and it was only A$3/metre. The equivalent of the 12 awg BJC as far as I can tell. Why spend more when it's arguably close to the best available.

so i found this monster cable 12 gage, and 100ft spool of wiring, so do i cut the wiring out for each speaker, or what, and i also would like to know, would banna plugs or spades be better, and should i use them on both ends.

or should i go with the bulk wiring from velocity, impact acosits on this website.

A lot of us have had good experiences with Monoprice.com It seems kinda ghetto when you get to the website, but, their cables are tops, ship quick and affordable.

Avoid Monster because they sue everyone, and sueing is for wankers.

What. About the impact cables on this site. Also help with setting up bananna plugs and should I opt for it on both sides or just go without them

Banana plugs and spades are for convenience. They don't help with the signal, nor do they hurt the signal (as long as you connect them properly). I like banana plugs because they make it a lot easier for me to connect/disconnect the wires - that is especially handy when I'm reaching around the back of my entertainment center. So, you can use them on both ends, one end, or none. It's totally up to you and your preference.

I don't have any advice about Impact Acoustics cables. I have two of their more expensive HDMI cables (I was really lucky and won them from AH back in 2007), but I still don't have any HDMI gear to use them on, so I don't have any real experience with them. They sure do look nice, though. :)

Monoprice and Tartan Cable are my sources.
I've always wondered why BJC felt the need to create a separate website for the Tartan stock. They clearly have no problem using the Tartan name on the BJC HDMI page.
