Best Sub for around $200

I think the most important thing is placement. I recently move my sub into a new spot and now it sounds amazingly better than before. I actually use a 10inch because my rooms small. But it holds it's own with my infinity beta's and kef 2001 rears.

Not bad considering those speakers retailed for 200 bucks when they came out.

One annoying thing is that you will want to power it off and on yourself. The speakers auto mode isn't very good and it gives a loud boom if you power if on in auto mode.

OneCall has the Boston Acoustics HPS 12HO sub for $229.77 and *free* FedEx shipping. This sub has an MSRP of $599.

This sounds like a great deal, but I haven't heard much about this sub.

Oh, and Hi everybody! :D

I pulled the trigger and ordered one - it should be here on Friday. 5 business days to get all the way from the west to the east coast.

Also, I'd suggest that anyone who has a "limited" budge for a sub to not forget about the used market. Last evening, I purchased a Boston PV900 (300 watt BASH amp, 12" driver, etc.) in pristine condition for a very good price. The PV900 last listed at $700 before it was discontinued. Getting such gear for about a third of the original retail price is what I call a steal.

Granted, I'd never pay $700 for such a sub - especially considering what you could get from SVS for $429 + shipping for the PB10-NSD.

Let us know how it performs.

Congrats!:D
I received the Boston sub on Saturday - you've got to love FedEx Home delivery. It's a solid sub, but a little on the contemporary side when it comes to looks. The grill is black, but the cabinet is molded plastic and internally ribbed to help with the acoustics. Also, the interior has MDF bracings for added cabinet stability.

How does it stand up? With music, I'm trying to be patient - but, have a feeling that it just does much better with movies, etc. I've been playing Bass Mechanic through it, and it really does well with the bass notes on that CD. It's just that with my music (Amos Lee, etc.), I desire a bit more musical bass.

For the money, it's a good sub. I feel sorry for the sucker who pays retail for it, though. I just have a feeling that if I want something more slanted towards music, it's going to cost me. Though, I do have some parts headed my way so I can work on another DIY sub to see if that makes me smile with music.

Sorry I have to bring up this thread back to life.

After some research comparing Dayton sub-120, Def Tech Pro Sub 60, and Velodyn VX-10, I found out that Dayton is still the best choice among these three cheap subs. Then, tSc starts making me wonder how it compare to Dayton sub-120.

Anyone has the tSc ASW-10 or ASW-8? Also Dayton sub-120? I want to get deep low and precise bass out of my subwoofer, so which one is the best among these three. Please don't mention SVS or HU, I know they are great but does not suit my wallet yet.

HD SUB12 is pretty cheap but how about the PA120? Where to find those? Which one is superior to another, HD SUB12 or PA120?

In this price range your going to have to compromise. I got the Dayton and after getting my head out of my a$$ and actually set it and my AVR up properly it did a great job. BUT, I notice things in classical music that are a bit off. Then again I rarely just sit quietly listening to music and concentrate on one particular aspect like that. Overall I find it adds a lot more of that lower end depth and has made the musical experience much better.
One the HT side I watched Iron Man the other day and it was freaking awesome! The explosions and rumbling and what not.
One advantage of tSc is free shipping both ways so you aren't out anything but a little time by ordering it.
