I hear that. The damn upgrade bug is whispering in my ear about some JL Audio 12w7 to replace the Kappa's but I'm totally happy with the performance as is.
You would need an EP2500 per sub to go with the 12W7 option, of course. But just think.... nearly 2x the output with NO compromise in SQ. :)

You make it sound too easy,so lets see another 2500 two new boxes or the same boxes we have now ?? New drivers just the one DCX ??

It's gonna be real tough to take em back outside though, lol, they are really heavy and sound awesome I watched U571 just because I read that the depthcharges sound incredible and to be quite frank its all true the house was rumbling I am curious as to the max. usage of these what movie will give me more than U571.
The explosion seen in War was incredible LFE. That whole sound track was well done IMO. But I love action movies.

I think Cloverfield is considered one of the best blu-ray sound tracks.

Of course Transformers was the best blu-ray soundtrack I've experienced.

It's going to happen but I'm in no hurry and will wait to find a pair either on Craigslist or ebay for a good deal.

Most people buy them at authorized retailers. As such, most used units are sold for about the same price as you can buy them new from super discount sellers like Sonic Electronix. Check around.. you will see that used units go for $400-$550 on average. They are about $450 each from super discount online retailers. Would you rather buy used or new for that same price?

Well You will need more anchors for the furniture.:D

Honestly I see no reason to do that upgrade unless you need the additional LFE or extension. Of course It's nice to be able to create earthquakes.

You can make that sub go really deep and with the dynamic eq settings a of DCX 2496 you can make low volumes have insanely low LFE response.
Pipe organ music here we come. :D

The JL Audio 7 w 12 is 9 1/2 inches deep as opposed to the infinity kappa being 7" deep what do you do about the extra 2 1/2 inches if you use the same box.

You just won't be able to use the 4" of high density fiberglass behind the driver that I normally specify. This will not hurt performance as long as the rest of the walls are covered. I would like someone to measure/verify the depth available in the avaserfi cabinet, however.

11" from the outside of the box to the face of the large brace, I actually made my build so that there was a little more room,I shortened the width of the small brace by 3/4 " to allow that much space between the driver and wool.

I could have told you that - it was done on purpose. Just because I wasn't told the JL was a great match for the box doesn't mean I didn't know... I never bothered mentioning it because I see very few reasons why someone would need the JL over the VQ, but worried that VQ availability would be short term. I didn't want the effort to be wasted if/when the Kappa was no longer available.

Maybe if one uses the JL driver in this box just cutout the wool right behind the driver nice and neat like but leave two inches worth there. Most builds have added an additional 3/4" to the front so that the driver is flush so if you just cutout a ring of ply to fit where the rim of the driver mounts use new screws 3/4 " longer that much needed room is achieved inside the box.I think.

Then you have enough clearance. Also, remember, you can not flush mount W7 drivers. If you do, you won't be able to remove/install the outer ring that holds the surround on and hides the installation screws. So, if one cut a recess to flush mount the Kappa Perfect, then they will need cut out a ring to flush mount the JL driver. This is easily done with a router and circle cutting jig. Cut the outer diameter circle first. Then cut the inner cut out. Now you have a ring of ply ready to glue into place. The JL W7 need a minimum 10 1/2". The cut out for the Kappa 12 is 10 7/8" minimum. If you flush mounted the Kappa, then you probably used 2 layers of 3/4" ply and simply cut out the first layer, having a 3/4" deep recess. So using a piece of 3/4" to make the W7 mounting ring is very easy.

Definitely new enclosures. 12W7's need a larger vent. 5.5 ft^3 net tuned to around 19hz. You will want around 46 in^2 of vent area with a W7 and brace it heavier than the kappa enclosures.

My "Build Thread 1" would be a good template for a W7 build, simply increasing the vent area and length.

The mounting hole is actually smaller too ;)

I actually would much rather enjoy these kappas to their fullest before I consider new drivers Geez I didnt even finish these boxes yet :) I'm still learning about this DCX to get it all on the same page.I would just build new boxes for a new driver anyway hence the name sawzalot I just dont mind building boxes,Ill need more clamps ??
