My home theater Setup

I started a thread in the OT section and really meant to bring it over here. So, I'm just starting the HT thread up here.
We started building this house in early January. It's our first house; we rent right now.
Right now we stand at ~4000sqft. 4 Bedrooms finished; 5th possible BR unfinished. 3 full baths. We kind of just got lucky in the way things worked out upstairs. We were able to fit an entire bath + additonal 500sqft room up there (the unfinished room). When I say 'unfinished', I simply mean no paint; just drywall and floor.
The wife allowed me (you married guys know how this goes) to have an HT room upstairs, so that's been my #1 project. The garage was also another project, but nothing really special is going on in there. I've spent a lot of time researching what I wanted to do and I've learned a WHOLE lot to carry over to the next house.

Kind of late in the game for me to start this thread, but hopefully I can get it caught up.

HT room:
~23x17x8'. 5.1; no 7.1 craziness. ;)
Current plan is for a FP. Won't be purchasing anything for the room until we're moved in to the house and have the spare cash to buy the equipment. But, we did go ahead and wire everything up for the job.

Thanks.

I got a lot of ideas from folks here but unfortunately couldn't implement a lot of the things I've seen done here. I just don't have that kind of money.

I've got a laundry list of things I'll do differently next time. But, I'm just happy to be able to do this to begin with.

It is great to have a dedicated space to work with and you are off to a very good start with nearly perfect dimensions for an HT room. Don't rule out used equipment (Audiogon/Videogon) as you save and buy. There is much turnover in this hobby and great deals can be had;).

Have fun!

Oh, yea, man... definately am familiar with those sites. I like to consider myself the 'king of deals', lol. As I'm sure many others do, too.

I've been watching audiogon/videogon for the past couple months in case a 'can't pass this up' deal comes along. I rarely ever buy anything new. I buy and sell a lot of car audio gear so finding deals is imperative. Heck, I've had 4 different CD players in under a year and well over 8 different types of speakers; just buying things to try out and sell them off. The hobby is fun, and isn't expensive if you know how to buy cheap and sell high. :D

Oh! the joy of building a dedicated HT room from scratch. I am jealous.

And dont forget CL. Sometimes diamonds turn up in the rough.

And as rmk said, have fun (but don't let the wife know ;)).

I used to search CL but in my area, I never see anything. But, I have checked metro areas near me (Nashville, Atlanta) and found some nice things. I’ll have to keep that in mind… :)

FWIW, if I were to buy anything today it’d be:
Denon 3808ci
Epson 1080ub projector

I’ve already got rear surrounds (aperion bookshelves).
My fronts will likely be DIY from HiVi Swans.

If you have a BD source that does the HD audio format decoding (PS3, player with analog outs, player that can send PCM over HDMI) you dont gain anything by getting a HDMI 1.3 capable receiver.

I have the 3806 and my case, the PS3 does the decoding. The Denon has a lot of power and the HDMI audio works great and the HDMI video section works as a switch just fine.

my BD player doesn't do the decoding. only bitstreams.

You are a lucky man! I would love to have a space like that to dedicate to AV :)

Looking forward to watching you build it.

Thanks!

Just to show you how much you can forget, I have to go back tonight to route RG6 for the TV in the HT room. I had a run going to the wall but hadn't thought about the run going into the A/V closet where the other gear will be.

Erin, very nice. I wish I could dedicate a room. I need a bigger house!

Since the HT room is being scrapped indefinately, I brought down my 2.1 setup from the HT room and put it in the living room. Denon 587, Swan Diva 4.1, and BIC 12" sub. The sub's a bit too boomy, so the volume on it is throttled back a good bit. I'll break out the RTA sometime soon (see: whenever I get bored enough).

Took a few pictures of the setup since I had the camera out for the Christmas decoration pictures.
