Anybody have any experience with the HT subs? Darn pricey, but I've had JL Car Audio and nothing could beat it in that arena.

I'm expecting window rattling base for a $3k Sub!

A JL Audio 12w7 can be a very good HT sub in nice box with an EQ used for pushing the extension deeper.

Never heard them, but they've gotten great reviews. I've spoken to Barry Ober of M&K fame who works for them now, and he described them as statement pieces, top notch performance.

Kinda pricey, though.

You can get an SVS PB13-Ultra for $1600 that will be pretty much equal to the F113 JL Fathom, in terms out sq and output.

You can easily buy pre-painted/pre-built cabinet from Parts Express, an EP2500 amplifier, DCX2496 controller and a 12W7 JL Audio driver. Cut a hole in the pre-fab cabinet and set up the gear and you will have your own premium quality JL home sub for about $1300. Add $1000($2300 Total) and you have a dual set up. You save a bit going dual since you only need one DCX24996 controller (a single unit can control multiple subs). You'll even have more dynamic capability as compared to the 'real' JL home subs since the EP2500 amplifiers will easily have much more real power on tap as compared to the JL audio Fathom F112.

A 12W7 in a 5.5ft^3 vented enclosure tuned to 20hz would be down right scary in a home. It would easily surpass an Ultra in terms of linear output.

The drivers can be had for as little as $500.00. Add a Behringer EP2500 for $250.00 or so, and a Behringer DCX2496 for for around $280.00 and you would have a killer setup capable of very high spl's for well under $1,200 including enclosure materials.

Use a 13W7 and one may need new window seals.

I use one in as sealed application with the above equipment and it is by far the nicest sounding home sub I have used/heard to date. (I have had a Velodyne HGS, and a PB-12 Ultra, and listened to countless others).

You can easily get more bass for the buck. I have owned several Fathoms and they are very well made, great sounding sealed subs. The output for the size is impressive.

There is a reason they are so well reviewed and it goes beyond good marketing. I suggest you read up. :)

Can't wait for the review! I wish they would have give you the 12 or 13.5" version instead... nobody wants the 10, but two of them would be very nice.

We already reviewed the 12. They wanted to send me Gothams but my back can no longer handle moving such big and heavy gear. I am on a quest to find high performance small subs since aesthetically most wives prefer that and we want to make them happy too :)

I still have my F112, and it stands up to every other sub I have put against it, they are great for small to medium size room.... The SQ is impeccable IMO.

They are expensive, but if money is no object they are worth adding to your arsenal....

We recently just did a shootout between the F112 and one of my DIY Maelstrom-X 18" sub and they were almost identical in SQ, with the 18" having the advantage down low....

The Mal-X sealed in a 24" cube with EP2500 driving it is a bargain at 1/3'd the price, and easily equals or exceeds the output...

I know JL Audio has always been known for their subs, but a 12" being able to hang with an 18" is pretty darn good in any arena.

I had the 13W7 for my car when it first came out (I believe I was the first in the Houston area to obtain one, according to Local Audio Store FWIW) and that sub BANGS! No distortion and efficient with the Power (I was pushing it using a 600w RMS PG Amp at the time).

I can only dream of one day owning a Fathom (I'll take a 10" if nobody wants them!).

Yes, JL subs are top notch, I have 2 12W6V2s in my car, ported in the spec box with a elemental designs nine.1 amp on it, and it straight up pounds hard.

There is a guy who posted some videos on youtube of his dual JL Gothams... that guy must have some deep pockets.

Do what I did and build your own!

It is actually a fathom beater as you can fine tune it better than JL's ARO with a DCX and a couple of hours.

I am flat in response from 17hz on up for the most part. Check Build Thread 2 in my signature. I have tweaked since the last response graph an am +/-2 db from 17hz-80hz in room.

I wish some of the forum members on here lived close enough to me to come assist me in tweaking my system :( My chair is the worst seat in the living room for bass... there isn't much bass in that spot, but move to any other seat and it's much louder, no matter where I put the sub, I really hate it, but then again my room is most likely to blame.

I know exactly what you mean. I really want a Gotham, but I can’t imagine having to move 360lbs. I’ve been considering dual f212s, but even 220lbs is far from practical. I’m not one to let practicality get in the way of audio gear, but I’m not sure I’d be able to wrestle a pair of those beasts into the house.

I haven't heard any of the JL Audio Home subwoofer but I agree that JL Audio is KING of car subwoofer (of course IMHO). I haven't found that Home audio subwoofer nirvana yet but I will never forget my JL Audio in my 1997 Toyota Supra back in the 90s. If I can only get that same feeling for my HT.

You'll be hard pressed to reproduce the spl levels of car audio in a ht enviroment. My two tens in my truck gives you that crazy pressurization that my four DIY subs in my living room could never duplicate.

I agree with this 100%....

The 12" W7 has a touch better upper bass reproduction then the 13W7, but either would be king in my book... They have fantastic amazing excursion and control.

If I could make 1 suggestion, don't skimp on an amp... something like a Crown CE4000 or so that has good handling capabilities and is stable down to 4ohm or better. The EP2500 is an OK amp, but the JL drivers can handle more power and would be worth in the end... Add a DCX and you have a winning combo...
