Marantz SR4002? Suggestions Requested

All -

I think I have decided against a 7.1 HTiB solution, and am leaning towards a 5.1 system. What are your thoughts on the Marantz SR4002? I've found it for $319. What would you all suggest for 5.1 speaker sets in the $200 - $300 range? I like the smaller speakers. This will be accompanying a 58" plasma and a room that is 17' deep and 12' wide by 8' tall.

If you have another set-up, let me know. I'd like to stick around the $600 all in range.

Thanks,
C

I think that is vastly poor budget plan.

if you are spending 600 you should probably not spend more than 200 on a receiver maximum.

The only 5.1 system available in your range I would consider is the TSC system. But Personally I think your better getting 2 very good speakers. instead of 5 bad ones.

For 450 you could get a lot of different speakers

You're gonna want to open that wallet a bit more.

That's a very good receiver and it'll not disappoint, but you most definitely want to up that speaker budget at least two - three hunderd more. That's a large area to fill with sound. If that's OK with you, get back to us for some suggestions.

Here's one of many, but it might still be a bit on the small side for that room: http://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.asp?number=ENTAKECLA

This will be much, much, better, but it'll cost a bit more : http://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.asp?number=ENK30010

If not, save yourself a lot of headache and get a HTIB from the center specials aisle of Walmart.

Just an FYI I have built a 600 dollar system before and it can be done well.

I will PM you with my suggestions.

I purchased the Marantz 4002 receiver, and I was poking around and saw some of my old JBL HLS610's. I will be using these as my front two... for now.

Suggestions for small-ish surrounds, and/ or a center speaker? I'm not too concerned about matching speakers at this point... but I'd like something that I can build on in the future.

Remember... Cheaper is better.

Cheers Gentlemen.
