RCA-style audio interconnect cables

I tried the analog outputs from my Oppo to 6CH inputs on my receiver, but, I could just hear the sound ONLY from L and R Mains. I am sure I have some setting wrong.

Oppo L to Receiver L (Front)
Oppo R to Receiver R (Front)
Oppo Center to Receiver Center using the Yellow RCA cable.
Oppo Surround (Not surround Back,Oppo has those too...7.1CH output) L to receiver surround L.
Oppo Surround R to Receiver Surround R.

Do I have this wrong or something? Here are the before and after pictures. And I was playing 'Matrix Reloaded' in Dolby 5.1 setup. Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

Unless your playing a SACD or DVD-A disk that uses the 5.1(7.1) analog outputs, I would use digital output for standard CD/DVD's. Using digital allows your receiver to do Dolby/DTS decoding and usually do better at bass management. You may be only getting 2 chan out now because the OPPO is not configured for 5.1/7.1 analog.

Either you don't have the right audio track selected on the DVD or your player isn't sending out 5.1 sound via the analog outs. I don't have an Oppo, but with most of my players you have to take the disc out to enter the player's setup mode.

A general word of advice to the OP.

These aren't toasters where you just plug 'em in and you get what you want by turning one knob and pushing one lever.

All this stuff you're dealing with is basically computers that make pretty music. As such, they are incerdibly complex devices and without those owner's manuals, you're boned. With all the different menus you need to navigate, the odds of getting it right by guessing are slim, even for experienced users.

Learn to love the owner's manuals. Some are better than others but you still must realize that these are your first ine of defense.

Thank you. Another bump in the head I need to keep reading the manuals before I post here :)

Seriously, I have no life.
I have a question.
I have a bunch of composite cables lying around at my home. Just like these...

Can I use the audio part (red and white) of the cables as 'RCA-style audio interconnect cables' required by my Oppo DVD Player
to connect to analog inputs in my receiver?

If so, I have a follow up question. Can I use the Video part of the composite cable as one of the audio cables?

I hope I am clear.
I'm not a fan of the "My audio cables complete me" crowd, but the ones in the photo are better for tying things so they won't move. If you get the cheapest set of Monoprice, Blue Jeans or anything decent, you'll hear a difference. I had a similar set connected to my VCR and when I got my DVD player, I made the mistake of using the same ones. I was so disappointed I though about returning it until I realized that I should have been using the ones connected to my CD player. Once I switched, all was well and I've been a happy camper. Nothing really special but they are better than the freebies.
