I have a 200watt H/K sub that i am getting tired with, i can get a new one only if my H/K sub is not working somehow. that's the deal i have with my parents. the sub already has a flapping noise coming from it, also when i play it for like 10 mins or more i can smell something burning from the back of the sub. this sub is nothing special its for my second HT in my room. so as a replacement i wont be spending to much money. i have tried many different things to destroy it, nothing seems to work.

thanks

Just play 20 hz. test tones at full volume until it breaks. You can use room eq wizzard to generate tones, or just download them online and play them as loud as you can.

Don't you think the parents will notice when the house starts shaking?

It sounds to me like your sub is already shot. But if you let the magic smoke out it will definitely be done. :D

The tone references above probably will do the job, but here is another tone generator which offers tones in intervals that match up well with excel spreadsheet graphing programs for setting up a BFD. I believe the software is free on a trial basis for 30 days, so record all the tones you think you may need, unless you want to buy the software.

Try sub 20Hz tones and extended play will kill the amp or driver or both eventually. This seems odd that you have to full destroy the unit before a new one can be had...isn't its current state enough to warrant a new unit?

Once you destroy that sub, you should move the velodyne to your 2nd system, and get a really beastly sub for your main unit.

Assuming collateral damage is not a concern ...

Just pull the pin :DJOKE:D ---

If you have you pre-out LFE set high and your sub amp set to max you should start pushing the the extrusion limits.

Good Luck,

make sure you wear earplugs while doing this. we dont' want to ruin you hearing.

Also have you considered a well placed stream of water. Or opening the amp up and breaking a capacitor off.

These might be more fun. :D

why does one have 2 theater setups anyway?

Another thought is vaccuming the port.

I imagine half the people in this forum have losted a significant bandwith of their hearing. Especially those who have Dual SVS PB-13 Ultra's! I wont even mention Mike_C who probably has to wear hearing aids with all the subs he has in one room.

Seriously, i have considered making this a new thread, but wanted to do some research on this topic first.

Get a long extension cord, take to the bathroom and throw it into a full bathtub.

You should probably stand on a rubber mat when you do this.....

Perhaps just take the unit apart and see what's currently wrong. Use the remaining parts to put together a back or second / third sub. If the driver's messed, you've perhaps got an amp or also maybe a box that'll be good. Otherwise, you've got a driver that'll maybe work well in another system. I'd not try and kill the entire unit. Perhaps the disassembled unit will be convincing enough that a new one is in order.

Just take the sub out of the box, and connect the driver directly to a wall socket... unless it's a super badass sub, it will cook it in no time.

Why not SELL your existing sub? That way, you have more money to work with and the real cost of the new one will be less.
