Remember Radio Shacks' Minimus 7

I remember my jaw dropping to the floor when I heard such a big sound coming from such a small speaker espcially back the when little speakers weren't even thought off.

Does anyone know if this is the same or verty similar to the old Minimus 7?

No idea, but I used a pair of RS die cast bookshelves for a decade and a half. :D.

Someone a while ago told me to check the tweeters to see if they were a certain brand. He said they were actually in somewhat high demand by DIYers! :D

I don't think so 3db... but not entirely sure either. The grille looks pretty darn identical, but I think* my tweeters look smaller (hmm) and the drivers are black . . . (hmmm) . . .

There is a pair of Minimus 7's in my current bedroom system. Those in the ad look a lot like them. On my pair the metal grill does not allow you to see the drivers like the picture. If you really want to know give www.audiokarma.org a look see. They are very well informed about "vintage" gear and speakers.
I use my 7's with an old passive DBX subwoofer. The sound in my bedroom is more than adaquate.

I have the exact same setup!

Only the mini 7's are flanking my 'puter monitor at ear level. Talk about near-field heaven! :) Got that sub from DAK in the early 90's and it mates quite well with the minis.

Actually, the mini 7's used a 3" woofer and went through several iterations over the years. The original ones were sealed and had a curved grille but the later versions (pro AV?) were more angular and were ported. If you've got a choice, go for the sealed ones.

I've sorta been "collecting" these things at yard sales and whatever over the past few years. At $10/pair it's hard to pass 'em up and I'm planning a mini- HT in the guest room for these.

As I recall, the tweeter on the RS was a large soft dome. The ones you have listed appear to have a phase ring in front of a smaller (mylar) dome. Have you looked on Ebay or Craigslist for actual RS speakers? I know there model with the Lineaum tweeter was also very popular.

I agree, I have a mid 80's pair in my garage (just went out and took a look). Bought them in HS and they still function fine. Nice "blast" from the past.

I have an old pair of the minimus 77's, planning to refoam them soon to use them as the surrounds. They sounded great before the foam rotted, especially after upgrading the crossover. If you check with google there are several mod kits for all of the old RS cast aluminum speakers.
