Simultaneous Outputs on Blue Ray Player

I am looking for a new blue ray player and I am hoping I can find one that would allow me to use HDMI, component AND either s-video or composite simultaneously. The purpose of this new player is to serve two processors (one through HDMI and one through component) plus the rest of the house through a modulated s-video or composit signal. It seems that most players require that you choose your output method - at least between analog and digital - and then you are not able to output a signal through any other method. Anyone know of a BR player that will send a signal through every output at the same time?

Thanks,

Matt

If you have an AVR with zone 2 functinality you would be better off going that route. I don't have a bluray player so I can't vouch for any that have that capability.

The Pioneer players allow for simultaneous output (the BDP-51FD and both elite players), but it looks like it's only for multiple HDMI signals at once. The BDP-51 allows you to split off of 1 HDMI cable, while one of the elite players has two HDMI outputs.

Not exactly what you're looking for, but I'd at least start with Pioneer and inquire with them about whether what you want to do is even possible.

From page 20 of the Pio51 manual:

Caution
• When HDMI is selected for Video, no video signals are output
from the COMPONENT VIDEO, S-VIDEO or VIDEO output
terminals.
• When Component Video or S-Video/Video is selected for
Video, no video signals are output from the HDMI OUT
terminal.
• The video and audio signals output from the set output terminals
are output synchronously (lip synchronization).
• When S-Video/Video or Component Video is selected at
Video, no sound is output if HDMI is selected at Audio (the
warning message shown below is displayed).
Follow the procedure below to redo the connections, then select
the proper connection at the setup screen.

Thanks for the responses so far. There's got to be something out there that will work for me. My DirecTV receivers and DVR have the capability to output from all signal sources simultaneously so I am hoping I will find a blue ray player that can do the same. It would be nice to be able to go to any room in the house and be able to tune it whatever is playing in the blue ray player and not have to have a seperate player to serve my whole-house needs.

Hello, Matt.

I would try two things, in order.

First, spend a minute writing up an email, and send the redundant query to all of the major manufacturers. You will get replies, sometimes sooner, sometimes later.

Second, I would try a more involved forum than here, perhaps. Ya know, where they are bluray bonkers. Only because I'm there with some frequency, would I try the AVS bdp subforum, but I'm sure there's got to be a good one at a place like bluray.com, for instance.

I'm in the same boat as you and have avoided going to HDMI for this exact reason. I have a distributed video head end with component video at all my displays. As much as I want to go to HDMI, it is cost prohibitive to get a HDMI matrix switcher and there is still no good way for me to get component and HDMI at the same time.

Heck, with my PS3 I can't even get digital and analog audio at the same time.

I hope you get a good response! Let us know.

Yeah, it's odd that I can do it with my DirecTV receivers/DVRs, but I can't find a blue ray player that will allow it even though they are more $$ and there is more competition between the vendors. I guess it's not a very coveted feature though and we are in the minority in wanting it. I will hit up one of the forums that jostenmeat mentioned when I get an extra few minutes and see if I can get any more ideas. If I get anywhere I will report back here.

I think it's actually a lot more than that. You see, there has to be a decompression and a formatting by the player and this is typically going to be to 1080p and lossless/bitstream audio at the HDMI output. Since Toslink & S/PDIF don't support this, different audio converters would be necessary for the digital outputs there, and still a DAC would be necessary for the analog outputs. Likewise, a 1080p/24 conversion to 1080i would require additional video processing for a simultaneous conversion of the native source for both the HDMI output and the component output, and yet again for the 480i native outputs.

I'm thinking I'm first going to hit a player which can just give me the digital output of audio at the same time as the analog output for audio and use component video to send my BD throughout my home.

Aren't there restrictions (HDCP) placed on bu-ray hardware that any HD video is sent via HDMI only?

No.

There is a image constraint token (ICT) which can be activated within Blu-ray to force digital only HD output, but at this time HD output for Blu-ray can occur over component video at resolutions up to 1080i (not 1080p).

It should be possible to output 1080p via HDMI, 1080i via component, digtal coaxial/optical, and analog audio output as well, along with 480i video output over composite/s-video connections.

I just don't expect to see that player anytime soon.
