What did you upgrade from to the Simple Infinity Kappa Build

What did you own previously before you built the above and what are your impressions? I will be going from a HSU 3.3. It has been mentioned to me that I won't be going lower or even having more output but the sq will be much improved.

I went from a Velodyne VX-10. It is a 10" 150 watt sub.

The kappa perfect build is a whole other world of sub. Especially when EQ'd, the integration of the sub is flawless with my mains.

I enjoy the sub very much.

I'm not familar with the HSU 3.3. But let's take the VTF-3 MK3 w/turbocharger option as an example. The Kappa Perfect build, built to spec, with the proper amplifier, will have substantially higher output.

I noticed that the inside of the ports were square, should I use a small cove molding or cut my own so it isn't so square? And if I were to flush mount it would it be ok if I make a ring 2" wide of wood to fit on the inside of the front baffle, would this interfere with anything?

You can round the port corners and edges. But I don't think it's necessary.

Make sure you have enough clearance between the driver and the dampening material.

You could also double the front baffle. It would add stiffness to the box and not reduce the internal volume.

If the price is a concern one way to cut cost is to use the Infinity Perfect 12.1 I recently modeled it in WinISD in this box and the response was very impressive, but do note if you go that route you will want to apply an eq and a highpass filter at 20hz to prevent exceeding the low xmax. The driver can produce impressive output with only 200 watts.

You could use some molding or a round over bit for a router. I had mine flush mounted using two layers birch. Just be sure there is enough material because those infinity kappas are heavy!

Very much so. Doubling the baffle might be wise anyway. Though I plan to flush mount and grill mine.

Thanks for the tips all. FYI, just ordered my Kappas from Ebay, Live search is 10% off now. Saved me $29 and some change. Also ordered some things from partsexpress.com, very reasonable shipping rates. Probably will take a week to get the drivers and will have the boxes done mid week, if work cooperates.

Did you get the right one?

I recommend you get a DCX2496 if you can. If not make sure to get a subsonic(aka High pass filter of some kind.) amazon sells an fmod pair for 30 bucks.

No round overs are needed. The port was designed to have a very low air velocity (the specified port has a huge cross sectional area, relatively speaking) to prevent any power compression or vent air noises.

The ring idea is perfectly okay. It will not hurt anything. But it will make the installation look better cosmetically with the driver flush mounted.

Haloeb did this. I suggest looking at his design.

It may be possible to improve extension, but I don't suggest making this box any bigger. It is already heavy and large. even though adding an inch to the dimensions could give you a little better extension, I suggest you stick to the design as is. The cuts fit very well on a 2' x 4' piece of ply or 4' x 8' piece of ply. This is a very good design that is better than most commercial subs. As Wmax has stated numerous times. The Perfect drivers are very linear and even without eq(which is still recommended) provide decent in room response. I also suggest you get an external amp to integrate your mains and subs with DCX2496 which will be the biggest upgrade.

I only have one question for you. Why didn't you wrap the insulation on the other side of the brace? Can't particles still get free and then possibly end up in vent of the sub? Don't want to cause you any trouble just don't want to see your sub get hurt.

I don't have a Simple Infinity Kappa.

I did go from a Paradigm Servo15 to a 15" sealed AP AXIS though.....
