I think the type of oatmeal helps too.
Most instant sucks.
My wife makes me eat....I mean I choose to eat it about twice a week.
She makes Quaker Oats and adds raisins or dried fruit, sometimes a little maple syrup.
Don't go cold turkey it's too much change at once.

I'm not sure if it's a texture thing. According to Adam, it's the kind of oatmeal I had. It had a banana in it. I'll let my girl try out a different brand ... maybe.

I'm having to do something to counter the effects of quitting smoking. Weight, blood sugar and cholesterol levels have sky rocketed. It's just a matter of growing up and being accountable for the condition my condition is in.

It sucks. No smoking, no sugar, no red meat, no bacon, no booze, no drugs.
And I can not master moderation so ... I don't know.
Maybe I'll become obsessively fit.
Ah, gotcha... that makes some sense... I get ya on the moderation thing... I quit smoking about a year and a half ago and about 80lbs ago. Since then I've become an IFA certified sports nutritionist and am a part time trainer. Prone to excess I guess.

I'm a firm believer in a balanced diet, dont get me wrong, but there's also no sense in forcing yourself to enjoy foods that you just cant. Thats a good way to fall of the wagon. I guess the point I'm trying to make is that you dont have to eat oatmeal (except that your girl wants you to). Making healthy choices doesnt mean missing out on what you like. Case in point... Whole wheat toast, egg whites and low sodium turkey bacon/sausage make a better balance than a bowl of oatmeal and fruit, mostly due to pairing proteins with the sugar for an overall lower glycemic index. For blood sugar issues, its actually better for you.

One client of mine cant choke down cooked oats.. no worries... dry oats in a blender, makes a powder, scoop of chocolate whey protein, tablespoon of peanut butter a few ice cubes, water, and 30 seconds later you've got a delicious breakfast/meal replacement with all the macro nutrients and plenty of calories to hold you til lunch. Thats one way to take down oatmeal...

Hey Adwilk,

Adam Wilkinson? Don't answer that. I hope your 80 lbs ago was loads of muscle ago. I appreciate the advice and am aware of balance, fiber and glycemic index. Before Audioholics I use to read books. Maybe they weren't medical journals or manuals on rocket science but they were still books. Anyway the point is thanks for the advice. I just got back from the store with 'The Other Adam's' Irish Oatmeal and am gonna go cook it up to try it out. I got some organic raisins and dried cherries too. Oh yeah, I got some Egg Beaters and another kind of oatmeal called 'The Silver Palate'.

Tomorrow morning is gonna be wild.

I can't wait to read what you think of it! Which kind did you get? Hopefully the steel cut if you're talking about cooking it. I eat their rolled oats like cereal with just cold milk (and Agave nectar to sweeten it up).

It's still cooking but I didn't want to keep you in suspense. It is the Steel Cut. I tried a nibble and think it might be doable with sliced almonds and some dried fruits.

Edit: My g/f was completely grossed out by the first offering but knew that a couple of Splenda and some of that Simply Smart no-fat milk would make it edible. She was right and it is not only edible, it's really good. I'm a big fan of the dried cherry. I tossed a third of a cup of cherries, raisins and sliced almonds into a cup sized batch of the gruel (dry).

2nd Edit: I get a thanks for this post but nothing for the naked dude with a mullet on a crapper outside of a trailer talking on a phone? Any ways I just wanted to add that much like dura bond, you better wash this stuff off of everything quick. I can already see that this would make for quite an adhesive.

Panera is overpriced average food. Similar to Starbucks.

1. Overpriced places suck.
2. I enjoy Starbucks. For the coffee? Eh, kinda. For the price? No. For the chance to walk away from my desk and take a break from work? Oh, yeah!

I'm just a thanking kind of guy. Don't push it. :D

I cook mine (both the five-minute and 30-minute varieties) in my Analon nonstick pot. Works like a charm. When in my cereal bowls, I just put water in them. It really isn't bad at all, man.
