Mitsubishi LVP-X70U lamp consistently shuts off

Recently replaced the bulb, reset the lamp timer, and noticed that the lamp consitently shuts off after 20 minutes.

I've read online that this is consistent with the lamp timer needing to be reset. However, I've followed the manual's instructions to hold down left-arrow, right-arrow, power-key at the same time after flipping the hard switch to ON.

I read a single reference saying I should connect the RS-232 cable and run a technicians program to reset the timer. However, I don't see this software anywhere.

The instrument panel (IP) indications are as such:
  1. Turn hard switch on
  2. Observe power light is solid red
  3. Press soft power button
  4. Observe power light is green and lamp light blinking green
  5. After viewing for approx 1 min lamp light is solid green
  6. 20 minutes of viewing time lamp turns off, power light is red, lamp light is blinking green

This IP combination (solid red power light, blinking green lamp light) doesn't appear in the fault list in the manual. Also, if I toggle the hard switch and press the soft power button the lamp comes back on immediately. So, it sounds to me like a timer is limiting me to 20 minutes viewing time.

Does anyone have an idea of what I should look at to resolve this?

As always contact the manufacturer. They may be able to help you better

Try removing and re-installing the lamp. Ensure the air filter is clean as well.

I talked with an astute tech guy from Mitsubishi for 30 minutes and he's stumped. Says it shouldn't be acting this way. We went through everything. He said to send it in. I'm looking for someone local to Austin who'll look at it w/o charging me just to tell me what it's going to cost to fix.

I know that these units are supposed to be pretty decent, but mine is doing almost exactly the same thing. You are doing well to get 20 minutes though. The unit that I have, after the power and lamp light go solid green works for just 1 1/2 minutes and that's it. :(:(
Did you find out what the issue was with your unit?

Never did resolve it. What I've done is started running it with the entire top half of the casing removed. I can generally get an hour or so out of it before it starts acting up that way. My guess is that it's the power supply (ballast block), and that some of the components are just getting old. It's almost certainly a thermal issue. Either a bad sensor or a part that no longer has the heat range it need to.

I've noticed that the bulb brightness will fluctuate fairly often. To me, this says it's power supply issue as well.

I'm not aware where to get ballasts for this unit and it's probably 50% of a new machine anyhow. Replacing it may not even solve the problem. So, a new projector may be in order.
