Do you mind turning that down?

Yeah, the neighbors finally complained about my new sub. I guess it is louder then I thought. I was watching the end of Max Payne, there is a short scene after the credits. The end of the scene has an insane bass pulse that shook the doors and windows, probably the neighbors too. It was midnight, and my neighbor is a cop..oops  Just thought I would share.

Invite them over for the next movie :D

Sounds like you are enjoying your sub ( LOL maybe a little too much)

Good Luck!

That is such an ego stroker isn't it? I had a cop show up a couple of weeks ago at 10 am! I was listening to Stevie Ray on SACD and lurking here. I felt kinda bad about bothering someone , but also a little proud!:D

Get a couple Great Gamma's. I don't hear bass in my other rooms anymore and the bass is cleaner.:D Also means it's time for sound treatments!:D

When I lived in an apartment I had the neighbor come over and ask to turn it down. She said it scared her dog and it would pee on the carpet. And I didn't even play it loud or have a good system. It was ridiculous.

Makes me wonder how anyone in a shared wall/floor situation can utilize some of the elaborate home theater setups I read about on here.

sometimes its possible. i talk to my neighbors, and i limit my "hammer" time.
so far, they are ok with it. i think i am going to get a matching sub.

That's what I did. :)

I simply try to start movies at 6:00 PM and never run the sub past 9:00 PM or so. I'm a condo dweller and I do what I can to have my neighbors like me.

I live in a house, and my neighbor next door has knowingly bugged me for over eight years by running his hot tub 12 hours a day (two hours on, two hours off...all day), and the "lady" behind me runs her loud pool filter all day long.

So...Stop! Hammer Time! :D

Seriously, though, I try to be considerate. I shut my windows before I play anything that could be heard outside, and I don't crank it late at night. But, because of what I mentioned above, I don't really worry about it too much.

I once lived in an apartment where the people above, just walking normally, sounded like they were stomping from my apartment. It was a very poorly designed building. It was unbearable when they listened to music. The thump of the bass was almost as loud in my apartment as it was in their apartment. I know that because I went up to talk to them, and the guy answered the door without turning down the volume. It was a terrible building, in which it was impossible to have peace and quiet if anyone did anything above one.

I am very glad I live in a house now. If I ever move into an apartment again, I will want to test the sound going from one floor to the next before signing and moving in. Not every building is as bad as that one was, but if you ever live in one of those, and your neighbors are not very considerate, it will be pure hell.

Poured concrete buidings are great for neighbours, but suck for acoustics. I have played movies like The Hulk at close to reference fairly late at night without complaints.

you either have neighbors that are afraid of you, deaf, are cool, or you have a sissy system. i live in a condo, flexicor. and i rock my building.

Wow, I am sure glad I live in a house with thick block construction. I tested my system out by cranking it way louder than I could stand, turned on a bass heavy movie and walked outside. I walked five feet outside my door and you couldn't hear a thing. :D I am using an SVS NSD12/2 and two DefTech BP7001sc with built in subs using 1,500 watt amps in each tower. I figure if I ever have to move back into an apartment, I would never be able to use any of my gear to anything close to it's true potential.

BTW the Gramma will only decouple the sub from the floor which will help with bass transfer mainly thorugh the floor, as far as bass through walls, your gonna need some serious room acoustics or turn the gain down. :(

Surprisingly it actually helped with the walls in may apartment. But anything helps in this acoustic nightmare. Still I see your statement as justification for more purchases. Therefore I am agreeing:D Then when I get the funds I must help my neighbors out. It's all for them;)

If you're playing your sub loud enough your neighbours can hear it, you're playing it too loud.

Yes. If you want to play a subwoofer loud, you need to live in a place where it is possible to do so without the neighbors being bothered by it. If you cannot afford that, then you simply cannot afford loud bass.

Sub woofers and apartments/condos = a bad combination unfortunately..

Playing your music should never effect anyone else around you. If other people can hear it, you're being massively inconsiderate. Especially if it's terrible music like rap.

This is a huge pet peeve of mine.

I get solid output to 21Hz then it drops off like a stone. I suspect if I had output at 15Hz I would be hearing from my neighbours.
