Replacing Mitsubishi DLP Lamp

Anyone replace a lamp in a DLP Mitsubishi TV? Bought the extended warranty, just read the fine print today that it doesn't cover lamps. Everyone seems to say it is easy. WD-62xxx.
I betcha I don't have more than 300 hours on the set, and the picture appears faded. Where is the best place online to order?

I have never replaced one but it has to be easy. I heavily use my DLP (I would guess it is on 10 hrs/day) and I am on month 18 with no signs of dimming.

I have seen guys on hear talk about the best place to get replacement bulbs so hold tight and someone will answer.

I have heard that the light engine has been a problem on these Mitsu DLPs. What are the symptoms of the light engine going bad?
I bought this TV with an extended warranty that didn't cover the lamp. I didn't want a service call for the lamp, when I knew they would probably charge me close to

my research on dlp problems says that ventilation is a major factor. check your vents.

a guy at work bought a dpl 5-6 years ago. watches it a lot. and has yet to have a problem with it, even the bulb.

Thanks for the suggestions. I ordered a new lamp already installed in the cage. Cost a few extra bucks that way, but I didn't think it was too bad for $135 out the door.
I hope that is the problem. Colors look okay, it appears that there is a little bit of a difference between the right side of the screen and the left side. Left side is a little darker. Not sure why there is that split down the center.

Split? Deep Field Imager is probably set to Demo.

Light engine failure looks like a white halo/mist around everything. It's some bleeding or completely white where absolute black should be.

Doesn't sound like my light engine is going bad. No halo, whole screen just seems faded, blacks are where they are suppose to be, just faded, same with all the other colors. No bleeding, no complete white. Uniform fading is the best way I could describe it.
Deep Field imager might have gotten turned to DEMO when I reset the system, to see if that would fix the problem. I don't believe I had the line prior to reset.

Thanks for the info, it was hard to find specific info. I read a lot of horror stories on CNET, but not a lot of info elsewhere. A lot of people are having good luck with these TVs. When it works the picture is great. If I was buying another DLP, I would definitely get a LED powered one. If I didn't have the extended warranty covering everything but the lamp, that is what I would be looking at. I like the big picture.
I question why I bought something that relies on a light bulb, and a fan to keep it cool. Seems like old tech. I get my new bulb today, hopefully that will fix my problem.

By the way yettitheman, great looking TV. You have a rather spacious pizza box.

Well, didn't have any problem replacing the lamp, but that was not the problem. I have an extended warranty thank god, and they are showing up next Thursday.

Yeah I've been away and missed this thread. I just replaced my bulb last week. I spent $89 shipped off E-bay for a bulb and replaced it myself--screw spending $300 on the housing from Mits.

Yep... I like the 57732 when they aren't broken.

Which TV you talking about? The broken Mitsu I have or the Samsung? :D

I have a broken Mitsu WD-62628. First TV I have ever had a problem with. I mean, they all crock and die after 10 or more years of service. That is fine, I expect that, but not with a couple of years of very light use.

Repair man was supposed to come yesterday, cancelled, have to reschedule. The split down the middle of the screen was the Deep Field being set to Demo. This must of happened when I reset the TV.

Same here. Makes me wish the old 70's Zenith's were still king. Seems like the older TV's just keep on ticking.

Mitsubishi Lamp

I have a Mitsubishi 62725 and the bulb needed changing after 4 years. However one month after the 4 year extended warranty expired the set went dead and the DM module needed replacement. I must say that Mitsubishi was great in that it payed for the part and I have a brand new TV for $200.
It May be that you need a Tech to calibrate the TV rather Than Change the Bulb. I changed the bulb and it took about an hour. If I had bought the cartridge then it would take a few minutes.

Had the tech out last week, he played with all sorts of settings, reset a few things, but nothing seemed to help. The picture was either faded or too black, depending on the settings.
Pulled the front off, no dust. Took the optical engine out of the back, it looked hazed. Sent off for a rebuild.

Yeah those lenses in certain DLP's get a nasty haze on them. It's pretty easy to clean. I'm cleaning mine this weekend. It's a shame that a $3000+ MSRP TV has these issues. I paid half that for mine, but I'm still annoyed. It's not like plasmas and LCD's don't have issues, either. Amazing how the industry suckered us into spending more than $400 (really $200) for TV's that don't even last as long as the old CRT's did.
