Obama Lifts Ban on Overseas Abortion Funding
President Obama on Friday lifted a ban on federal funding for international groups that promote or perform abortions, reversing a policy of his predecessor, George W. Bush.

Isn't pro-abortion liberalism just grand? ...another great new use for American tax payer dollars during extremely difficult economic times.

As if abortions aren't already bad enough, now we as tax payers get to personally finance overseas abortions....thanks to Osama.

The abortion debate is raging on just about every forum I visit. Here is something to think about... (I copied this from our local Craigs' List)

Right, wrong, indifferent...the part that concerns me is the systematic dismantling of woman's rights. What do you think could happen to your rights as a woman, if you give away YOUR RIGHT to have an abortion? Taking away a woman's choice to be in control of her body and protect herself from future subjugation, allows the wheels of history to roll slowly backwards. What rights might they take away next? Do you like having the right to vote?

Not so many years ago, Muslim women thrived. They were educated, owned businesses, held jobs, and had the CHOICE to wear the burka. When religious extremists (Taliban) enforced their violent, no-tolerance version of government and installed a new theocratic ideal, one of the first things that went was woman's rights (not pointing fingers at you die-hard Christians or anything). How better to control a nation than to cripple their women with laws that silence their mouths and shroud their eyes? The creation of laws that take away woman’s rights silences half of society and dumbs-down the remaining half.

The last time making abortion illegal came up seriously in the news, I thought of our veiled neighbors in the East and considered, ‘If we are not vigilant, that could easily happen here.’ Young women today have a blind sense of entitlement. They often don't understand and, frankly take for granted, their rights. They have no concept of what the Woman's Right Movement was about nor how easily their privileged lifestyles could be ripped away from them. Who in the hell gives up their rights????? Nobody says you have to go have an abortion, but for goodness, maintain your right to have one!

Your rights as a woman are something we fought for and must continue fighting for. Giving in to sappy anti-abortion pleas is as good as trading in your voter’s registration card…or your right to travel alone…or your right to own property…or your right to hold a degree or a job…or your right to tell your husband to ‘piss-off!’

As a woman, you have only had the right to vote since 1920. Birth control was not approved by the Food and Drug Administration until 1960. In 1973, The Supreme Court established your RIGHT to have an abortion. This was re-affirmed by the Supreme Court in 1992.

All it takes to drive women to ruin and revert our society back to the stone-ages is the removal of your rights; a woman's choice to be in control of her destiny, as opposed to suffocating under the thumb of self-righteous, theocratic oppression.

Why is this an issue. Every president that has taken office has lifted the ban (Democratic president) or issued the ban (Republican president). This is nothing new.

Allowing abortions in this country and trying to tell others they can't is hypocrisy. Just because the ban was lifted, doesn't make anyone or any country pro-abortion. In my eyes, the decision to have a child or have an abortion is between a woman, family, and church, not the State.

If abortion is illegal, masturbation and cutting off dogs testicles should be too.

Just kidding.

Hey, My first red chicklet, and an unsigned one to boot.

Nice.
Not too shabby to go over four years without ever getting one! I made it about two. :) You've got nothing to worry about, though - you'll be at eleven chicklets before you know it.

As soon as my rep bank recharges I'll send you one too. :D
I think that someone needs some meat. Grab some b-day lunch, my man! :p

Okay, sorry for the interruption. Back to your regularly scheduled political/abortion-related debate. :D

A minor hit at best. not a big deal.

Alright, let's get back to pissing each other off with another political thread.:)

Your very first red chicklet with so many posts? You must have been doing something terribly wrong in the past, as you should be hardened against them by the time you posted half as much as you have!;)

I generally stay away from the political threads. I don't consider myself knowledgeable enough on many the topics to participate much of the time.

Not that that's ever been a prerequisite.;)

It figures I'd get a red in a thread such as this one. Oh well, I'm over it.

Perhaps we could extend abortion rights to a later age. I mean it's ok on babies why not extend up to like 1 year olds or 2 year olds?

Say that to any human and they will revile, but I think that shows abortion isn't quite right either. But still I think there are much bigger issues than abortion. Abortion is a result of many of those issues. Like how about real sex-ed programs. and Free BC for any high school student. They are already doing it so we might as well protect them from abortions. Abstinence programs don't work for most people because they don't really follow their beliefs. Plus I think a responsibility and parenting test should be passed before you are allowed to reproduce. Make em carry a license. We restrict the right to bear arms. Why not restrict the right to bear children:D

Now back to watching Escape to Chimp Eden.

I don't understand this post. He CHANGED the ban on funding for abortions.
Could the funding be better allocated to other important things? Yes. But that is not for us to decide. If you are for abortions then this is a good thing. If you are against abortions this is a bad thing. Thread over.

I'm sure you know that there are too many holes in that argument to take it seriously.

I agree with you about BC and sex ed. Abstinence talk is just sticking one's head in the ground.
