Movie Night @ Mom's

The way this works is that back in Sept. my sister's husband died quite unexpectedly. She wanted me to help her set up a home theater for her little girls to be able to enjoy now that much of her time would be spent out of the house. That's where I (and you) come in. The biggest obstacle was that she just thought that $5,000 was crazy money for that. I sold her on it by pointing out that:

1. It would be great for music. All her girls play instruments so they're into it.
2. It wasn't for her. It was for the girls.
3. Her grown boys in their 20's would be around to do Movie Night @ Mom's.

Over Christmas I went down to Oklahoma with my g/f and spent the time with them. I set up the system. I've only ever set up a couple of older H/K rec'rs so the Yammy 663 was different enough to be a challenge. I got it working but not calibrated by Christmas eve. Everybody thought it was awesome. People in Oklahoma are easy to please. I got it calibrated somewhat over the next few days and engaged Memory Guard before I left. Her daughters have been using it ever since.

My sister just called to tell me that her son's were over to do Movie Night @ Mom's. She thought I would be proud. She seemed very happy about it and I got to pass the word along that their movie of choice (Dark Night) has the AH stamp of approval.

My time and your efforts here at AH have been used for the powers of good. :)

Alex,

I am very sad to read about your brother-in-law.

Congrats on making your sister and her kids happy! Way to go. The system looks great, and that TV stand sure looks familiar. ;) Movie night @ Mom's. You should be proud, and I bet that everyone there enjoyed it.

Looks to me like your sister got some good advice. Two subs and bookshelves = Cool setup.

Thanks Adam. He's sorely missed. I'm big on the 'things work out' view and so far so good. I'm gonna pass on this opportunity to relay my views on any of that. ;) :)

Ain't it something? It was the final big purchase for that system so I sent a pic to my sister to make sure it was going to work for her. My 12 year old niece spotted it and asked what it was. I told her it was a space ship. :D

I tried to mention who helped with what every chance I got and it occurred to me (when I was posting the pic's) that you came up with the stand as a suggestion for a member. I was so impressed with it that I recommended it to my 27 year old nephew. His artistically inclined wife pooh-poohed it but it worked for my sister. When he saw it at my sister's I could tell that he was lamenting his total lack balls in the home decor arena. :(

Who knows, after seeing how unobtrusive that stand really is, maybe his wife will let him have one of his balls back? :D

Edit: I'm including this link to the cable making thread as it's all part of the same HT:

The advice and some of the equipment came from a variety of Audioholics members. ;)
You played your part too.
You will notice the lack of an Integra based on their handling of your situation.

Yep. :D

I'm sure they are based on things that you've said about them. I didn't get a chance to compare. What's to say that I didn't plan to use the Polks as a stepping stone to something way better but planned to leave a wonderful surround package locked in place? Yeah, ... that's it ...

Alright that wasn't the plan but it sure sounds like a plan now. Actually Phil said that he preferred the Polks to the Primus 360's he sold me. I figured it was worth a shot. I have no clue what my Primus 360's use to sound like before I modified them and it would be stupid to try to compare my 360's in my room to her speakers in her room which is over 1500 miles away. Having said that, my 360's kick Polk butt. YEAH! :D

Now I've got upgraditis in two time zones. :)
