Hey all,

I have a room thats about 26 x 22 foot. Its all open space, 3/4 carpet. Im not sure if I should go for floor standing rears or smaller, would there be a big difference in a room this size?

Im looking to power them through a Marantz SR5003 which is 7 x 90 watts.

The speaker config im looking at curently is:
4 x Jamo C607
C60 centre
SUB550

Im just thinking, should I go for slightly smaller rears C605 (still floor standing) and upgrade the amp to something more powerful like a SR6003?

The rears will be placed 6 - 8 foot away from the couch, plus i should mention it will be used for house parties here and there.

Thanks

I always like the idea of having the same speakers for all three fronts and rears.

I would think a room that size would sound great with C607's all around.

But I would definitely try to get as much power to them, as possible.

One idea is to use the SR5003 as strictly a pre amp/processor and use the pre amp outs into a seperate power amp that's going to pump at least 150 watts per channel.

Just for example, something like the Butler TDB 5150....or The Outlaw Audio Model 7500.

Check audiogon.com, too.

Just a suggestion.

BTW, you're thread title question seems a bit personal :D

Thanks for the comments, I think I will probably use the SR5003 as a pre amp/processor and get a power amp later on.

Do you think it will be alright if one of rears sits 1 foot higher than the other speakers? They will all be equally spaced from each other and same distance from the couch too.

We can tell you what not to get thats for sure... If it says monster....

I'm a fan of 12 awg for most applications..

Oh, nice equipment, should make a great setup.. im excited to get your thoughts

Thats what I was thinking when I put together my first setup, I saw a bridge which connected the terminals, but then when you remove the bridges and connect the cables they are both going back to the same terminals on the amp anyway. So this got me thinking, how could it make a difference unless the amp had special terminals for bi-wiring :S

I ran it for a few years without bi-wiring and now for about 6 months with but I cant tell a difference, but i wasnt sure so i just left it :p

Congratulations on your new gear!! Very Nice!!

As most people here at Audioholics already know, I absolutely love the C607!!!!:D:D Right Jamie?;) Awesome....musical speakers!!

I'd love to hear your opinions on the C607.

How long are your speaker cable runs going to be.

I'm fairly certain you'll do just great with any speaker cable in the 14g-12g range. Hell, you'd be fine with 18g, too. But I'd stick to 12g ...14g.

True He-man Audioholics tend to use 12 AWG, although that's overkill for typical runs. 14AWG is going to be safe (and, depending on how long your runs are, especially to your rears, 16AWG is also probably safe).

See chart here.

Pretty much got all my cables now, just got the speaker cables left. The speaker cable lengths will be from 2m - 15m (7ft - 50ft).

Would 14 AWG be sufficient, because its halve the price of 12 AWG :D

If it were me, I'd go with the 12 AWG, if I needed to have some 50 foot length runs. But that's just me. You'll probably be just fine with the 14AWG.

I went with the 12 AWG, I had to unless I would have always thought, "I wonder if it would sound better if I got the 12 AWG" lol...
