Our new couch just got delivered, I forgot to get the felt pads to place under the feet to protect the hardwoods so they just carefully set it close to where I thought it should go. I knew I should have went and got the pads before I tried to move the couch but like an idiot I slide it around without them. One place has a very bad scratch down into the wood and she will kill me if she sees this. Is there a quick way to hide this? The floors are oak.

HELP!

Find an oak tree, cut it down, cut to size, replace

Some wood polish/oil might help hide it at the very least, but I don't think there is a truly simple fix.

if it did make it all the way down(make sure) striping and sanding is the only way, and you would have to get a repair kit (vanish/wax) from the oem.

I feel rough wood to the touch.

I dont mind doing that in the long run but is there anything I can quickly do now to get by? Could I just paint a little stain in there so it's not light wood color where it was once dark?

Yes, just try to start a shade or two lighter, Id try waxing it out first.

Just say a prayer and be up front with her. What's the worst thing that will happen, she'll call you a few bad names:p. Or just buy some "Honey I just f...uped roses", and tell her you love her... that's what I would do.

Regards, Bill:)

What kind of wax do I use?

Here is a picture of the scratch.

Also here is a picture of the couch. She had it special made by Bernhardt, it took them 12 weeks to get it to us. To me, it looks like couches I have seen in showrooms but it is what she wanted. It does seem to be built well and will be great for movie watching.

I can't help you but I'm interested in your solution. I have a number of scratches under one of my chairs and I'd like to hear what to do with them.

:eek: Oh that is sickening those are gouges , not scratches.

Touch up first with rub some tinted polymerized tung oil or stain onto the scratched areas. Let it soak in to the marks for a few minutes, then wipe all you can off with a clean rag. Keep traffic off the floor for 24 to 36 hours. Oil will make the scratches less visible, though they won't disappear completely.

Then wax with paste wax, Johnson Floor Wax.

Trying to paint it may make it worse or leave a dark/light spot and IMO most likely will look worse in the long run. Ideally you'd need to know what color stain, if any was used, and what it was coated with, probably polyurethane, then you could touch it up with that. You could get some polyurethane and do a test to see how it looks. The trouble with most those wood products is they have strong odors and take quite a while to dry. Call you local hardware store and ask them.

It's not really a quick fix, short of putting a rug or the couch over it to hide and hoping she doesn't see it. It's probably best to tell her what happened, then take the time to fix it right.
