She asked for a Bose system...

My girlfriend asked me for a Bose system for her office today as a Christmas gift. A Bose. One and a half years of watching movies on my M&Ks, listening to Bag End studio monitors, Dynaudio towers in my bedroom ... and she asks for a Bose?

I mean, granted we don't exactly talk about speakers all the time, but...damn...

Get her a pair of these and a Peachtree Decco.

Quad L-ite

Peachtree Decco

Probably the same price as the Bose and just as small.

You'd have to check the specific laws in your state, but in the UK, I believe an honour killing would be legal. :D

She is a victim of Bose marketing and probably nothing else will satisfy here regardless of whether you show her systems for less price that sound better. My wife was that way with Dyson vacuum cleaners, and it turned out to be a repair junkie. My daughter explained it that women just care more about the little details and esthetics than men, like in the way they pick out clothing. Go figure.

A system or a table radio? For a plush office I can almost justify the latter, although there are better, similar, and less expensive units out there.

Office Sound alternatives

The Bose Wave radios, abeit over priced , sound very good! Another idea if she is open to it is a Sony XDR-S3HD radio. Nice HD sound! A small eceiver and a pair of Cambridge Audio S30 sound very good in an office. (actually that is basically what I have in my office, tuner, amp, Cambridge Audio S30 speakers; also have a audio jack to use as my PC speakers).

Anyway peace, not trying to promote Bose  or make Bose enemies ;)

Good Luck -- now you know what a shrimp fells like on a hard ocean floor when the tide shifts the top rock :D

Ah, go easy on her guys... where others might see a chance to flame, I spot an opportunity to educate. And she's already on the right track with an Audioholic boyfriend, just need to "undo" all the hype and thrill about Bose in her that the Bose marketing masters have cleverly instilled (as they do so often to the more casual audio equipment consumer...). :D

Buy the bose system she wants, then buy something of similar size that is garaunteed to blow it away in sound quality, then do an A B comparison for her so she can see that the bose isn't the best option.

Bose has a 30 day return policy.

Get her a bose radio and a different system and let her try them side by side.

Its in her office so you probably won't have to hear it. Let her make the decision and be happy about it. Your never going to change her mind. ;)

Edit: I think Glocks Rock read my post, then went back in time to post before me and make it look like he came up with it.

Same girl had me buy a Dyson also. When I checked them out I found out they don't even clean that well. I think your daughter is right on....

I think I'm just going to buy her the two channel bose thing and be done with it haha. I'm pretty sure she is aware that there is better stuff out there, even in my living room, but, just "likes the little cubes for the office"

What was she smokin'???
Sour diesel, its good but we are both more partial to the skunk blends. This is a bit too heady/sativa for the winter months. Not complaining though, still very nice, but a bit too energenic when its too cold at night to swim. Of course for the first 15min with this stuff you just sit there listening to how amazing my non-Bose system sounds. ;)

Our Dyson cleaned very well. You could see the animal hairs suck up into the clear canister which was pretty cool. The bad thing is that the clutch/belt assembly has to be replaced as a unit and the repair is about $150. Ours broke for the second time in 4 months and we bought a Bissel.

Speaking of Vac's, I bought a Kirby (not due to a salesman either). Sure they are heavy and such, but they are built like a tank and clean really well. Extremely reliable. I look at it as a one time purchase. Our carpet has never been cleaner, that I can say in confidence.

Tell her you'll buy her a Bose system when she buys you a Ferrari with a Ford Pinto engine. When she asks why, tell her, "because it's the same thing, it looks real purdy but runs and sounds like shyt and when revved high, may destroy itself." ;)

Riccar is the best vacuum cleaner!
