Can you tell us why you returned the 3 players you listed. If we know a little more about what you are looking for and what turned you off of these 3 so much you retunred them we can give you some direction.

Well ,I was happy with the Sony, fast loading, quiet, small footprint and an exellent interface, but i don't like the dvd upscaling so I read the the Samsung has HQV silicon optics to do better this job and is fine, but blu ray playing is average and also is to noisy the loading tray, not the fan, then I read the PS3 is superb and YES! very powerfull, fast loading best picture overall blu, but the fan is to noisy,My sitting position is 10 ft,and It botter me,also it runs hot and easy to get dirty,But the principal complain is I want my receiver do the Hd sounds decoding My budget is $650.00 I looking for good picture Hd and standar, fast loading and quiet operation plus bistream audio support. Tanks

Oppo BluRay

Since you have not been impressed w/ some of the entry level BluRay players, consider holding out for the BluRay player from Oppo Digital. It should be out some time in the next few months.

With that budget, you can buy two players.

- Pana BD-35. $239.
- Oppo 983. $399.

With the great rep that Oppo deserves, I would actually be surprised if they made a player that would best Panasonic, even at double the cost, in terms of BD playback. Ya never know I suppose. The older gen Panas did suffer the most shift in color points, even if said to be very subtle. However, AFAIK, Panasonic makes the ONLY players at under 1k that can pass all HQV tests. They also happen to own most of all the patents associated with BD. This is not to mention FW support. So, save your money, save yourself from waiting indefinitely (I really doubt Oppo will have the player out in the "next few months" if they don't even know if they are adding DVDa yet!?).

Heck, even Xylon of AVS has recently said about the BD-35, "Yes! finally I can recommend a stand alone player"...

I have the Panny BD-30. How much do I miss for not having the BD-35 instead? No complaints here yet, just making sure the "35" doesn't have something REALLY major that I might've misssed out on.

BTW, Sorry for the hijack. Joe B.

Nice Phil. I just got one a a week ago. Sounds like I made a good choice. However, the Oppo looks promising. Only time will tell. As of right now, I am very happy with my purchase. :):)

The closest thing to anything MAJOR is profile 2.0. I have a hard time calling that MAJOR though, at least for my uses. I usually completely forget my BD-30 is 1.1 until others mention 2.0.

Be happy with your player. Its a good one. You could have spent a lot more, and got worse BD PQ. In fact, the chances of that are very, very likely.

If you can wait, Oppo has my vote, but one of the Panasonics would be my second choice.
