What's the rational there, my friend?

Oh, were the pics taken in RI? Some of the background looks familiar.

Rick
The pic's were in Jamestown, RI.

The rational?
How about photo shop, me, my monkey and a person with a sick sense of humor?
My monkey and I don't need that. :D
Our relationship is platonic. ;)

Oh, I though you didn't want me to find you, on my next trip to RI.:D

The pics reminded me of Newport, RI. a little bit.

One of the tips that I picked up here on AH is not to post pic's of myself. I'm not in any of the of the pic's. ... \

============

In most cases, a picture of yourself is okay.

What you need to be careful of is to "display" or provide any information that could be traced back to you. Identity theft can and does occur.

Some examples of what you don't want to do:Don't put you full name and address in your public signature; usually town or town and state is okay.

Be careful of pictures of your house that might contain the address on the house or pictures of your car that show the license tag.

Phone numbers are bad also; don't give them out.

If you want to provide contact to someone, it is almost best to set up a separate gmail or hotmail account and give that to another person. The if something goes wrong you can cancel that one account.

When you provide information in a public forum, it is not longer private. And the worst part is once given out, you have no way to fully retrieve the information.

Also never, never provide any personal or sensitive information to an unsolicited email response. Call the compnay back on their published phone number or make contact directly with them, with contact you inititate.

Peace and Secure

Newport is on the other side of the bridge. They are neighboring islands so they are going to look alike.

When you get a chance to get out this way, let me know. It's not all about Florida all the time. Quahaugs and Stuffies are so under rated. Just watch a few episodes of Family Guy so that you can blend in. Learn how to say 'Gigitty, gigitty goo' while making vulgar hip thrusting gestures. :D

I hear you brother. I just may take you up on that.

Though, much of what you mention requires beer:D....and I hear you're no fun anymore; since you stopped drinking.;)

As hard as it may be to imagine, I quit drinking before I started posting.
For the record, I'm more fun than ever. I think I'm gonna have me some milk and cookies now.
If I say anything off color, it's just the lactose talking. :D

Sound Card

So I got me one of these:

http://us.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=0&subcategory=&product=11179&AID=5826267&PID=552179&SID=870860-2-0-ARTICLE-0

I have an eMachines T5026.

The quick start instructions talk about an optional Joystick/MIDI bracket with a ribbon cable. At some point I think I might want that to be able to do the REW thing. Any ideas on that?

I heard that I should go into my bios to turn off my current audio setting so that the computer doesn't get confused. The new sound card instructions tell me to disable any on board device. I have something called Realtek. Obviously I am brand new to this and about as stupid as a sack of hammers. If somebody should be interested in walking me through this, I would be forever grateful. An exchange of phone numbers via PM would probably help me a lot just in case I can't get the computer to work.

I'm going to get a wrist strap and some of that heat sink glue at a Staples right now. About 6 months age I yanked my heat sink out to clean it and never reapplied glue. I could use some advice on that.

I'll be back in about 5 hours to see what has been posted.

I'm scared, hold me. :D
TIA,
Alex :)

I was right to be scared. I'm thinking that I didn't get any response to the above post because nobody wanted to be a part of me blowing up my computer. It didn't work at all the first time I put it back together. Then of course no sound would come out of the speakers but at that point I was so happy that the computer would turn on that I didn't care about the stupid sound. It's all good now. Can I hear a difference? F--- if I know. :D

Hey, brother. Did you ever get it working? That Creative card will almost surely sound noticeably better than your built-in sound. I'll be happy to help if you still need it. I gotta start drinking to take off some stress from seeing my walls after the tile installers roughed 'em up.

I did get it working, all except for the headphones, after about half a dozen installs.

Yeah, I think it sounds better but I hesitate to say stuff like that without having enough test equipment to launch the space shuttle into an orbit around Uranus. :D

My on board audio is still enabled so that I can use my cheesy Realtek EQ and have my computer sounds at log in etc. The jack in the front of my case no longer works for headphones nor does the speaker jack on the back of my case work for speakers. It's all coming from the Audigy card. I just don't know where to plug my headphones in yet. There's a mountain of reading material. I just spent the last 3 days mucking around with this sound card, rerouting my wiring, installing a couple of 256MB sticks of RAM and installing Driver Detective. ($40/2yrs)

You may suck at painting but I suck more at this. I haven't had any weird shut downs since I installed Driver Detective, it's faster and I learned something about my screen resolution while I was at it. Frankly I'm surprised it still works.

I'm gonna spend a few days with the computer off so that I can get my painting done and then try to figure out how to rip CD's and burn MP3's using LAME. At least I figured out which of my drives is a DVD burner and which is a CD player. I have had this T5026 for 3 years and just figured that out 3 hours ago.

You're a big dude, right? Take a break from painting and come on down here. I need some muscle to help me bring the pain to these installers. Nice guys (well, one is...the other doesn't really talk to me), but there's no reason except for negligence to bang up my walls. I paid good money for them to do this work.

Sorry...still venting. I'll be done soon. Really.

I'm enormous but mostly I just get my @$$ kicked. I am honest to goodness completely dowm with asking slobs to leave. Then again paint is the last thing that should have happened. What exactly is happenening to these walls? Will paint fix it or have you got gouges and holes?

Paint will fix what I've seen so far, but it annoys me. Greatly. Chip a baseboard while removing tile? Okay. Scuff my walls three to four feet above the floor - all over - and that's something different right there.

I'd say about 50%. They put down the whole tiles yesterday and will do the cut pieces today.

Do you mean that in a good way or a bad way about the grout? Thanks.

Bad, very bad. LOL :D
How would you misinterpret 'you're gonna ****'? :)
Here's what to watch for: The inexperienced guy is gonna have to mix the stuff. It's not really complicated but when he goes to pull the mixing paddle out of the bucket while it's still spinning you need to just shoot him before the grout hits every single surface in the room.

Seriously, it's gonna leave a mess if the guy doing it is a slob. If you're like an over the edge neat freak you need to look the other way. If you're a reasonable individual who realizes that you have to crack a few eggs to make an omelet and these guys are the Laurel & Hardy of Ceramic, then pray that they aren't drunk, stoned or both. Either way it will be over tomorrow.

One thing I can tell you is that any imperfections that you spot will not even be a blip on the radar two weeks after your folks are gone. You're gonna love it when it's done. :)

Thanks, man. Always nice to have a little anticipated stress added to my day. :)

I spoke to the head installer (who isn't the head guy, but he's over the other guy who's 18) this morning about the walls and showed him the one with the scuffs and the missing paint. He said that he'd be careful. Looks like they jacked it up a bit more in the past two hours.

Heck, if I have to repaint anyway, the blood splatter isn't going to really matter that much...
