Two subs? Split mono signal or use sub crossover..

Here is my setup:

Front L/R: NHT SuperTwo (near full range towers)
Center : NHT SuperOne (large bookshelf)
Rear L/R: NHT SuperZero (small bookshelf)
Sub 1: Pinnacle Digital Sub 600 (2x12" sealed isobarik, 350W)
Sub 2: Adire Audio Rava (12" sealed, 250W)
Onkyo 605 Receiver (one sub out)

Here are my options which would be best (audioholics recommend splitting the sub out mono siginal, but Widescreen review magazine recommends not splitting the sub signal)?

Option 1: Split the sub out signal from the receiver and point one signal to Sub 1 and the other to Sub 2. Place sub 2 in a corner and sub 1 beside sub 2. Set all speakers to SMALL.

Option 2: Take sub out signal straight into sub 2 in a corner. Run center channel speaker wire from the receiver to Sub 1, cross it over and run to center channel. Place sub 1 between the left and center speaker. This way I can set all my front speakers to LARGE.

Option 3: Split the sub out signal from the receiver and point one signal to Sub 1 and the other to Sub 2. Place sub 2 in a corner and sub 1 somewhere in between the front speakers? Set all speakers to SMALL

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks again!

Option 1 and Option 3 are the same except for placement. Connect as Option 1 or Option 3 and experiment with the palcement of the subs so that they sound the best to you.

Also, normally if you have two subs for the best sound they sound be matching. Your subs are not, so you will have to adjust the levels. Itlooks lie the Pinnacle willbe the dominant sub and its palcement and level will probably be the most important.

Good Luck!

I haven't seen anyone with a Rava in a while. Good to know they are still going strong out there :)

Split the sub signal. It won't hurt anything.

The variable crossover on your sub does not translate to the speaker output on them. The speaker outs from the sub are FIXED so no matter what you adjust the sub's crossover to, your mains will get the same signal so technically it would give you less flexibility than just using the receiver's crossover. I would toss the "large" idea out the window.

Split the mono signal.

Why does that magazine advise against it? I really doubt their credibility after that one.

There might have been a time that the receivers might not put out enough signal upon splitting, therefore not being able to trigger the Auto on generally found on sub amps...

I would not worry about that issue with the Onkyo, it will split and feed 2 subs with no issues....

Mono Split.... FTW
