Go with the Athena's since you are not locked in any more to thr BIC's.....They are rated very well for the cost.

The Athenas have plenty of bass, I have them set a few DB hot on the low end. Playing basstronics - bass I love you is sometimes scary. The excursion on the 6.5 woofers is impressive. They also have the smooth creamy highs for superb clarity. If you aren't planning on adding a center or surrounds then you really should get the Athenas.

It's unanimous, except for the member that should be asking for advice, instead of giving it.

Get the Athena's.

#1gamecock, I think this thread worked-out great for you, and I believe you will be pleased.

A big thank you goes out to malovich for finding the best deal.

you call polk's flagship speaker package junk?
You should be banned from audiogon, ebay, and audioholics for listing PA RM series as "flagship". You are also not even including the sub that is part of the system. You are a crook.

Gamecock...these Polks are listed on audiogon and ebay if you want em. They're brand new, been sitting in the garage for years. Im doing a favor my cousin who bought em when good guys went under but never bought a receiver for it so now doesn't want it anymore so Im listing it for him. Soundwise, plays real loud and smooth > good efficiency with 91db for the motley crue and quite riot tunes.

The whole set with sub mrsp was $1599 and Im selling them without the sub for $550 and you call me a crook?

The 7500 was their flagship in the RM series. If they were not, why don't you say which model is then.

Your description on Audiogon states this in the very first line:

"These are Polk Audio's Flagship speakers." That is a lie. You are misrepresenting the product.

You also claim in your add that $1599 was the retail, as if that was the retail for the five speakers alone. That was the retail with the sub.

You're busted. I would recommend you back off now.

Well actually ...

Klipsh are so overated. and they sound really harsh and make your ears fatigued ...
You just gotta to listen to them in the right state of mind..... and after about six beers or glasses of wine , they sound a whole lot better

Or a least they did many, many years ago  when I used to go clubbing

Later,

P.S. - I am getting ready to replace my older Klipsh sub .. Is that a good move?

Zumbo is right on! And I personally think it is pretty petty and cheap to try and hi-jack a thread where OP is asking for recommendations to try and sell some old HTIB speakers.

Good Luck!

I forgot that another option to the energy center and bookshelves are mirage speakers, they use very similar components and are/were owned by the same company. Klipsch bought Athena Energy and Mirage and decided to kill the Athena line because it was creating too much competition for them.

edit: They were all previously owned by Audio Products International (API) based in Toronto.

that center looks very nice! here's a big question. hope y'all can help...

in my bedroom the reciever, sub, and tower speakers are directly in front of me against the wall near the door. the bed is pushed up all the way against the wall. my tv is beside my bed on top of the dresser. i didn't use my entertainment center to mount my tv because my bed was too high and the tv sat low. now i have the tv to the right of me on top of the dresser. would that kinda mess up the sound stage? how can i watch movies and jam to music best in this kind of configuration? how would y'all organize the speakers and tv?

sorry to bust your clueless bubble but those old HTIB speakers are better than any of the overstock damark crap you guys are offering to the OP.

A pair of the RM7500 will put out more sound than 5 of the white van quality Bic's.

They are the flagship in the RM series for a reason and Polk produced a high quality classic set of speakers that are still better than most of the speakers packages that are currently out there.
