HSU VTF-2 on its way.....

Huge thanks to everyone here for all the advice. Thanks to all of you I was able to narrow down my search to the SVS-10... So why Hsu?

Well, I was able to pick this bad boy up (used) for $250 +shipping! I really could not beat the price... Yes, it is the first version.. not as nice looking as the new ones, but from what I can tell has the same performance. Anyway, I am sure it will blow my JBL E250P out of the water (I hope!) which I paid the same price for about 5 years ago!

I also like that the sub has the high-pass out, something missing on the SVS. See other threads on my disappointment of not having analog crossover using a turntable. The Yamaha V663 digitizes the signal, performs crossover, then converts back.. kinda destroys the reason for playing vinyl. Now I plan to set my receiver with large fronts and LFE/Low Bass out the fronts and let the sub do all the crossover work... make sense?!?

Thanks again to all on this forum...!!

Congrats on the good deal for the Hsu! It will blow away the JBL I'm sure.

Sigh....I just contacted the seller to cancel the sale.

I could not do reviews when I was in the process of purchasing it. But the salesperson assured me it was "more or less" the same as the mk2 and mk3 with only the cosmetic difference. Cosmetic means little to me so I jumped on it. Now doing research...which is surprisingly hard to do for the VTF-2.1, it turns out it is pretty different: 150watt power supply (could not find out if it was BASH or not), 10" woofer, extension to 25hz....

It also seems the first model was plagued with electronic issues (blown amps, auto power not triggering) Since, I am sure, this box is already 6-7 years old.. I am just not willing to take the risk. I would rather pay the few hundred more for piece of mind.

Back to looking out for a SVS or HSU mk2 or Mk3! :)

Did I make the right decision or should I have kept with the purchase?

Hey, if it felt like the right decision, then it was the right decision for you. You did your research, and there were reasons to cancel it.

Now, what was that? You're thinking about a PC13-Ultra? Good call, my friend. Good call. :)

Hahah...that might be a bit much sub for my 1100ft3 room, unless he is selling it for the price of a VTF2.... what's that? There can never be too much sub?!

Whats your budget for a sub?

Ric
Well I need to sell some audio gear, but I was looking at the $500 range, but I am always on the look out for a good deal! :) If it had been a mk2 or mk3, I would have been very happy. I have an offer on a VTF-3 mk2 that is very reasonable...but I am afraid it will be too much woofer for my room... That and I need to sell gear! My fall back is the SVS 10 new.

I was going to suggest a PB10-NSD at $429.00 :) It's a strong sub, and priced right! I have an SVS and they are very well built, with great customer service. If you go this route you'll do nothing but smile, I'm sure.
