My opinion-not even close. Sold a Camelot Round table, Nakamichi DVD 10S, Nakamichi dvd-15 with great regret. And on top of that I sold these units very cheap to go to Blue-Ray. Like I said that's my opinion and my weak link in my system.

The way you put it... yes. Good quality BD play to normal good quality CD player... you shouldn't notice any difference. I can tell you that my Oppo DVD player does sound different than my old standby Adcom disc player. I don't really know what the difference is... can't put my finger on it... but it's different. I wouldn't say better or worse... just a tad bit different sounding.

I've never had a really high end disc player, so I can't speak to that coparison, but I'm sure others will chime in. One of the things I'm currently deciding is getting a new high disc player vs building my HTPC. I'm not sure how a digital file from a well built HTPC would compare to the high end disc player.

Before I sold my Denon DVD-5910CI (retails $3800), I did a little comparison one last time just for my own good. I compared the 5910CI with the Denon Blu-ray DVD-3800BDCI ($2000) and a lowly Sony DVD changer ($130). I listened to my favorite CDs (2Ch). As hard as I tried to hear a difference, especially between a $3800 player and a $130 player, I could NOT hear any difference whatsoever. But that's just me.:D

I suppose someone else might have been able to hear a difference.:D

I wonder if decent, accurate speakers would help?

I know, I know....give it a rest....

Haha ... zing!

It takes a complete room/gear system being near ideal before you can start to hear things like differences in digital transports. But once you get there, you start hearing differences in everything.

You need to build a speaker that does 20 Hz - 20 kHz +/- 1dB, and then I'll buy five ($4K x 5 = $20K). Plus make a Subwoofer that does 10 Hz - 150 Hz +/- 3dB, and then I'll buy one ($2K).:D

The audible fizz of carbonation in my beer took on a whole new level of transparency once I started using point-loaded bottle isolators. They were expensive, but I don't think that I could ever go back to a regular cozy.

Good thing I have an acoustic nightmare of a room then. I don't want to buy another CD player:D

On low to mid volume it is not that noticable, but when you realy crank it, it does'nt seem to have that fire, you know when you're eyes light up and you just say wow, this s..t is kicking.

Well, it's no wonder then. I never listen at volume greater than 85dB.:D

Even when the wife and kids are not at home. I'm always afraid I might damage my precious hearing or something.:D

Hey man, I hear ya ... it's a never-ending cycle. I know my system is better than ever, but that doesn't necessarily mean I enjoy it more than ever. I enjoyed it just as much years ago, many levels of resolution less than I have now. If you're happy with what you have, no matter what that is, money can be much better spent on many other things.

In fact, in some ways I enjoy my high-end system less than I have in the past. I find myself listening critically too much, to music I don't necessarily like just because it's a good recording. Peeling paint off the walls with some Megadeth or Tool is much more enjoyable

[Waits for P-Dawg's humorous remark about speakers in regards to your precious hearing going to waste. :)]
It might take him a while on this one.

That would be a good supposition to test:D But, I doubt the outcome would be different. The $ensible Sound or rather one of their authors did a DBT some time back between an $80 RCA carousel player and CD players costing $1000s. Outcome was null.:D
But, who knows, maybe on a Sunday, it would have had a different outcome;):D

I really wonder even about that since the implication is that our hearing capacity has no limits or short comings which it has a great deal, actually:

But, I'd take a look at some supporting evidence of it:D
