What Does Your Spouse Think

It gets on her nerves and I always have to say that it will be my final purchase for a long time. I also seem to have to buy a lot of new furniture to keep her chilled about new gear.

I told her that Highlander gave me all the stuff that came in the mail last week!

Now that's impressive! Nancy like listening to music and having the occasional movie night, but she could care less about "the stuff." I pulled out my old Adcom 555II last night and I was just beaming at it and was trying to explain to her how cool looking it was and she just stared at me with a blank look on her face. She doesn't get it.
I try to keep her involved in equipment upgrades and show her where we can expect an improvement in performance with one piece over another. I generally take her shopping whenever I'm looking at something to upgrade. She likes computers and gadgets more than A/V equipment but she rarely turns down the chance to go to an electronics store. I guess I'm lucky that she actually has the interest rather than giving me the rolled eyes or the blank stare.

My wife doesn’t say anything about all the equipment in our great room, but she is sensitive to spending more money on it. I keep equipment for a long time (i.e. 15 or 20 years on most), generally just add one piece at a time, and understate the cost. Generally I replace or add something about every five years. My last addition was an SVS PB12+2 this spring and I got it in maple so it fits in with our beige décor. It is the only wood grain item in the room, but it is a really nice looking box. The wife and daughter don’t like deep bass, but my son and I do. We turn the audio system off when either of them are home and let it rip when one or both of us are home. My wife complained about the switchover to HDTV (i.e. HDTV, receiver and surrounds) but mellowed out when she got used to the 61” picture
