Im set on the Infinity, and Im going to make a fiberglass enclosure. So basicly it will be sealed, but if someone can tell me the ideal volume Ill shoot for that. Me and a friend came to the conclusion that I will get the Infinity, and he will get the JL. If one is better than the other, one of us will sell and buy the better one :D

The ideal volume should be spec'd by Infinity somewhere. You can run the params through a program, but why do that if somebody has already done the work for you?

Also, have you over made a glass box before? It's certainly not easy, not hard once you've done it, but not easy to learn I don't think.

I havent made a glass box before, but Ive done harder stuff than that :D Im trying to add some good sound to my car (with the ablity to "bump" if I feel like an idiot) but I want it to take up as little room as possible. I could spend more than 150ish but then Id be getting WAY to much sub (I.E. W7)

I'll have to check my computer when I get home (I'm out west for work at the moment), but I built a sealed glass box for the trunk of my SC400 a few years ago.

I basically masked off the trunk in and around the spare tire well, and used that space to get the proper volume for a single sealed 12".

You can use MDF bracing as needed, I'd suggest and MDF ring to screw the sub into at least. In fact the more MDF the better..

Good luck! :D

The Infinity Kappa Perfect 10D VQ should be here tomorrow :D I'm very excited, and I have started the fiberglass box as well. That was a little more difficult than I thought, but not to bad. Ill have pics of it up when its all done. I'm aiming for the box to be 1 cubic foot without the sub when its done. How does that sound to the experts? I have only laid up the back so I can change it bigger or smaller still. Its going to be a sealed box BTW.

Thanks,
Sean

OMG it came early!!!!! This thing is bad *** looking!!! Im so pumped, its way more impressive looking in person. If you only looked at the back/side you would swear its a 12 or maybe a 15, its actually got a bigger VC and magnet than my old Alpine Type R 12. Ok enough babling, Ill get pics up soon just cause.

If you mean a JL W7--- of course it's better -- from a SPL stand point. But at low to medium SPL they will sound the same except for frequency response - but you can use a parametric EQ to get the same FR from both. They both have extremely low distortion when used within their thermal and mechanical limits.

I picked up the Infinity Kappa Perfect 10D VQ, and he is going to get the 10" JL W3v3. I think for MY intent they would be nearly identical, but would be different at higher SPL like you said. Obviously the W7 would blow any of the subs I looked at away when it comes to SPL, but you get what you pay for.

Probably the closest comparison to the Kappa Perfect, measurably, would be the 10" W6v2.

So I finished the box (like 99% anyway) and the sub is in. It sounds good but its a lot louder at lower htz. I have no pole piece in and its leaking around the box decently (Ill seal it later in the week) do you think I should put in the medium pole?

I LOVE the driver, I had to take pics :D Everyone I've showed it to way way impressed with it. Everyone said if they didnt see the cone that they would think it was a 12 or 15. I have pictures of building the box but It didnt go as nicely as I like (Im a perfectionst with that kind of thing) so I dont know if I want to post them up.

Well bad news everybody, the sub is toast :( I finished up the box this weekend got it perfect looking, painted and ready to go. I had the sub on the back of the car while I was fixing the wiring getting ready to put it back in the box. My friends brother came by with the kids (haven't seen him in a long time) so I went to go say Hi, and the sub fell. It was like slow motion, we all tried to grab it and none of us made it. I turned away once I realized I wasn't going to catch it, I couldn't bear to watch. The spider is completely broken in two spots so one area is not connected anymore. Thing that really sucks is that I don't have the money to replace it (especially with Christmas coming up). I spent lots of time and money building a box for it, and its just gonna sit and collect dust :( Ill be taking donations to replace it, if anybody is interested :D

Wow, that sucks.

Are you going to replace it with the same driver next year? I'm sure you have realized after trying it, that it was an unusually low distortion/high fidelity driver within it's rated excursion and power range; very rare. I use two of these (but non VQ version) Kappa Perfect 10" (10.1) drivers in ported cabinets for my computer speaker woofers, powered by a Behringer EP2500(2 x 650 watts at 4 ohms). They provide perfect, virtually unlimited SPL, with no audible distortion or compression. Perfect for my audio monitoring system.

I am 100% sure that I will replace it with the same one. I was impressed with it untill I broke it :( It played a lot lower than I expected and louder than I thought too. It seemed to lack in the mid bass area but it was never sealed to the box which I think was my issue.

I wonder if there is a recone kit available. Does anyone know? I'm making inquiries. If there is a recone kit that would be the cheapest way to salvage this disaster by far.
