As I mentioned in the deals thread, they turned that code off during August, though they had the 25% code. The ANWBTS one seems to be back as of the beginning of Sept. I used that one on my previous order :)

I used it yesterday to purchase BoB and the Matrix collection. $125 all-in... same thing on amazon would have costed almost $160! Not a bad deal...

Yea, I just ordered $149 of stuff, shipped. Band of Brothers, Dark City, Pale Rider, Ganges, Mongol, and Room with a View. :D Three of those titles are $16.07 before tax. :D

I just called WHV to cancel BOB. Because the 'zon dropped it to $59.95.

While I was at it, cancelled Mongol due to predictions of poor PQ.

I noticed the price drop, too. You must live in one of the states they charge sales tax in because it's still less with the 30% at WHV. I went on there to preorder BoB and the Dark Knight, but it seems they have taken the DK off for some reason.

California. Tax + shipping makes ~$70 turn into ~$80. I save $20, get my copy more quickly to boot, and easier time and/or less worries in changing my order, returning, etc. JMO. WHV sign-in screen was down for a while, and that's why I finally called them.

It JUST arrived!!!! woo-hoo!!!! :D

Oh, I'm excited. I haven't received anything for a while! (relatively speaking:eek:). Have all this stuff in my amazon cart that I just can't pull the trigger on yet.

The next month and a half has plenty in store for me, though. :)

Gotta head over to my Pana friend's place and help him deal with his new bdp he just brought in from work. Im told to bring over Ratatouille for his baby daughter.

Anyways, I'm very happy to have BoB in possession finally!!! :D:D

If you can, try to set aside the whole weekend for a marathon Band of Brothers session. That way, you can really get familiar with the characters and the events of the series. Honestly, I done that twice already, beginning to end in a single weekend, and it was worth it both times.

I am happy to report, after seeing the first episode, that the BD pq is a big jump from the DVD version. I was actually quite disappointed with the DVD pq.

side note, I don't think I will ever order from WHV again. I changed my order to Amazon a month ago. WHV's customer service site was down for a while. I then called to have it cancelled. Lady said, "ok", but that the cancellation might not go thru.

It didn't, even a month in advance. BS. I think I will most likely, at least, lose money in shipping + return shipping, and we will see how long it takes for them to refund me. My second BoB set is on the way, in any case.

Yeah, I am definitely boycotting WHV. Their prices are rarely as good as the zon anyways. Even if it is, the shipping costs and hassle are not worth it, so far IMO.

Edit: I've already sent complaints to CS. Now, I have just sent this post-link to WHV CS to let them I know I have begun my campaign against them. Total BS.

I wonder how it compares to the Japanese HD DVD. This is the rare case where the HD DVD is SIGNIFICANTLY more expensive than the Blu-Ray.

WHV was awful last year. They got like a "F" from the Better Business Bureau I thougth they had cleaned up there act. It's a shame to read that they have fallen back to old patterns.

There are some great differences in PQ between different scenes. When its on, its on though. Some very excellent PQ when its good. Not always, and certain more dramatic scenes do look to have received more attention so far, 3 episodes into it. For instance, both with Blithe and Winters, you can make out every freaking pore in their faces for a lot of scenes in the extremely intense "Carentan".

I noticed a post on the LG BD-300 thread at avs about problems with dark scenes on the blu-ray BoB:

I recently picked up the LG BD300, and performed the firmware and software upgrades last night. I also picked up the new Band Of Brothers Blu-Ray DVD set just released on Nov 11th. I noticed that many scenes which had lots of army greens, shadows, and/or dark lighting the image would flicker in some spots. Sometimes it looked really bad, like a white sparkler. When we watched Cars this weekend, it looked beautiful. I am using an HDMI cable to my Sony KDL-32L4000, with output set to 720p.
I'm sort of new to HD, so I am wondering if there is a problem with either the player, the TV, or the DVDs.

Anyone else seeing this?

I'm not seeing this. Using JVC PJ. I just watched three episodes in a row last night. If your Sony LCD using some sort of Frame Interpolation? Could that be the issue?

Please note that there is some grain in this series...

Its not mine, I am shopping around for a blu ray player and I have netflix so the two that I am leaning towards are the LG BD300 and the Samsung BD-P2550, I saw that complaint over at avs in the LG BD300 thread. I saw some advertisements of the blu ray version of BoB on one of the Dish HD channels the other night and it looked super to me but I know my present Toshiba DR5 has issues with dark movies sometimes too.

I recently watched episode 6, "Bastogne". This episode does appear to suffer DNR more than others, from what this noob can tell. Sometimes I wonder if they apply certain things to level out an "average" for the rest of the episode, as there was plenty of dark scenes...

OTOH, I sort of wish I didn't know about these things, and could just be immersed with picking up such things, or even thinking about them while viewing. In any case, there seems to be inconsistency not only within episodes, but between them as well.

I think this collection is going for only $41, shipped, with coupon code SUPERSALE at D.D. for a few more days...

Great buy.
