Well you should have thought of that earlier mister!

Do they sell the 4308 at BB?

Yep and he said they are going to be stocking the 5308 within a couple of months.

Denon is king, baby. It's even made in Japan.:D

Denon 3808 (HTM): FR 20Hz-20kHz +/-0.0dB, 211wpc x 2 @ 8 ohms, 239wpc x 2 @ 4ohms, THD 0.004%, Crosstalk -88dB, SNR -107 dBrA. Great Specs, indeed.

The Volume Display is HUGE and the receiver looks AWESOME.

Just out of curiosity, if you could get it brand new from J&R Music world for $970, would you? Would it be worth the trouble of returning it to BB?

Oh, wait, did you put it on your BB card for 12 months interest free?:D

But you definitely have my approval stamp on the Denon AVR-3808CI!:D

I wish I could change my screen name to DenonDefinitive.
Real world measurements are not even close though.

HT Mag
Five channels driven continuously into 8-ohm loads:
0.1 percent distortion at 118.9 watts
1 percent distortion at 138.0 watts

All channels driven continuously into 8-ohm loads:
0.1 percent distortion at 113.5 watts
1 percent distortion at 130.7 watts

You most definitely should:D (can't really stop laughing)
And when you do, don't forget to switch to B&W, Dynaudio, or even Paradigm. Based on popularity, you should have no trouble getting to $ for the DefTechs.......

Well, those numbers I listed are for 2 ch driven (HTMag). I think the reason is because in a real world application, you will probably not have all channels driven simultaneously.

What about watching a movie?

Way to go Greg. You just beat the best deal I could find on the 3808 by $100 just by walking into the local BB. I defer to your schmoozing ability.

Mine drives two tiny surround speakers so I think I am fine no matter how you look at it.:D

I tried all sorts of sources including DTruHD stuff and found the only way I could get the surrounds to do anything serious is by selecting the stupid 7 ch stereo mode. Even SACD/DVDAs failed to make the surround channels do anything that needs power.

Me, I'm just glad he found something local so he doesn't have sit at the window waiting for the UPS truck to pull up. Again and again.....:p

Just kidding Greg. I'm still relatively happy with my Yamaha, but I understand the frustrations you experienced.

Glad you found something you're happy with.

Just tell him that J&R offered to sell the 4308 to you for $1,530.:D
My best price on the 4308 was $1900. DealmakerDawg here could probably walk out with one for $1400 with a couple of HDMI cables thrown in for his trouble.:D

In my case, the high price of receivers here in the arctic tundra made the Integra competitive since I already have the amp. At one shop here, the 3808 was the same price I paid for the Integra (which I pick up at 9AM tomorrow, BTW).

I like my 4308 but I always thought I should have bought the 3808 instead for $500 less. The 3808 is just as powerful, in fact has better lab test results. The only thing it does not have is wifi. Wifi is nice but it is not a big deal to run a cheap Ethernet cable.

So far I am loving this thing! I just did a quick 3 point cal but it sounds good (the same) the GUI seems awesome, the 12v trigger is assigned properly and the volume display is huge and on my TV!
Woohoo! This one is sounding like a keeper.

I know what you mean.

I thought the same thing for the longest time. I have always told people to look for that All Channels Driven specs as well.

Then I saw that Audioholics' ALL CHANNELS DRIVEN CONTROVERSY thing.

For one thing, the surround channels are never as loud and significant as the front 3 channels.

Even if all 5 or 7 channels are simultaneously driven, the front 3 are getting most of the juice while the surrounds are just getting a little.

So maybe we should settle for the 3-Channels Driven?:D

Agree 100%, especially in terms of bass, the surrounds don't get much juice. Did I tell you that I was so crazy one day and bought a sub for the surround channels using speaker level inputs? Anyway, I could hardly get anything from that sub regardless of whether I set the sub to large or small with XO set to the lowest possible number. Of course if and when movie producers change their approach and start pumping tons of db to the surround channels, then I will go and get a couple more amps accordingly.

Yeah, that is crazy.

But we are all "Audioholics" for a good reason!:D
