ITS ALIIIIIVE! My 1978 JVC receiver

Brought out my old 1978 JVC JR-S400 Mark II receiver today. It has been in a closet for probably 10 years or more. Couldn't remember if it was working or not when it went into hibernation. Well hooked up my semi retired Pinnacles to it, added our very first {RCA RC5220P} DVD PLAYER { also in hibernation. OK I have a problem with getting rid of old electronics } player to it, threw in Elton Johns Greatest Hits {seemed appropriate}. And aside from a few meter lights not coming on, it fired up! Took the lid of and blew a couple of decades of dust out of it, and let it play awhile. Its 80 watts per and kind a hoss. Here's some pictures. Next maybe I will go down and bring up my JVC JL F50 turntable, stored in it original box...then maybe my JVC JC 1770 top loading cassette deck. I still have the JVC brochures, manuals from this stuff and my store receipt. Receiver $450, turntable $200, cassette deck $250 & $250 for used JBL L-88's.

You might be able to get bulbs for what is burned out, maybe

Amazingly, all of the lights worked on mine. I don't know how long it was sitting around in someone's house, but it was very clean when I bought it and only needed about an hour of attention. One switch on mine sticks, but it sounds pretty good. The FM section on mine isn't that great, but it works and the RCA jacks are too close together to plug "modern" RCAs into.

$5? That is a steal, no matter how you slice that.
Maybe an older no frills RCA cable, just the metal outer jacket?

That receiver will sound better if you upgrade the wires to brand-new Monster cables

I was actually thinking of making a joke about the monster cables {and possible Bose as well} when doing the write up. The FM wheel is practically frozen, one light came on, but not the power needle lights. I do miss those on a receiver, doing their little bouncing up and down...oh well, The volume slide is kind of staticy, kind of have to ease into it slow. But this thing still cranks, put on Freebird {the 9+ min. one}, eased it up to "3" {out of 10} on the volume, and it was all you wanted in my little "office". Even when it out in the fairly large living room it never took much more than that fill the room. And the Pinnacles sounded pretty good {although way to close together}, never heard them in a 2 channel setting, there 4 sale by the way.. Regarding the CAP, does 63 V & 10000 UF {well its kind of a "U"} tell you? Was just reviewing some other pics and that shows.

Sweet pics and equipment, guys! I have an old Scott receiver I got from my uncle's house when he passed away a couple of years ago. I have it at the local electronic guy's house/shop for repairs and check out. It needed a little tlc as it had an issue when my uncle stopped using it about 25 years ago. Can't wait to get it back and fire it up with the Advents I'm getting from Tomorrow! I'll post pics when I get it back. This reminds me to call and see if it's ready.

Hi DTS,

I realize this thread is quite old, but I came across it when I Googled the JVC JL-F50. I just picked up one of these TTs (along with about ten good classic rock LPs) this morning at a yard sale for $20. It has an Ortofon VMS 5E MkII cart that looks okay, although I haven't tested it yet (we plugged it in and the lights work and the platter turned, at least). It was still in the box and had some literature (warranty cards) and even a spare pair of cartridge mounting screws (I think) in a little envelope. It looks to be in pretty good shape (except for a couple significant scuffs on the dustcover). The only thing apparently missing was the owner's manual. If you would be so kind as to find a way to send it to me--or post some scans or pics of it in a forum--I'd be eternally grateful! Thanks for taking the time to read my presumptuous request.

Class A has nothing to do with the number of caps- it's the amount of filtering needed after the rectifier. It could also be a dual or multi-segment cap. If it was Class A, it would be more of a "WOW! THAT HEAT SINK IS HUGE!!!!!!!!"

I looked, all I could find was the Brochure, I don't ever recall having a manual for the turntable. I still have the receiver, cassette, 1st cd player and first surround processor. Here is a couple of pics.
