Equalizer install Question

Hi. I just purchaesed a Behringer DEQ 2496. It should be here Friday or Sat. I would like to hook it up to my Onkyo tx ds 797 reciever. I considered hooking it up between my DVD/CD player and reciever. Instead of that route, I was wondering if there is a way to use these................
Digital Input and output jacks on the rear panel. There are 3 digital input jacks with coaxail and three three with optical. For output there is one 1 optical output. It says the" inputs accepts digital audio signal form CD, LD DVD or other digital source components". It also says that " output can be connected toMD recorders, CD recorders DAT recorders or other similar components. Iwas wondering if I could use this as sort of a tape loop.
If this is not possible, is there another way of making the DEQ the last stage before amplification in the reciever.
My only other option is to use the preouts and purchase a separate amp. I really dont want to do that because I also just order the Equip to Build and IB sub and funds are not endless at my home.

To get the best use out of the DSP you want it preamp out to the speakers. WMAX is the man when it comes to this unit.

There are only two options. Normally the EQ is installed between the preamp and power amp. In your case that isn't possible. The other option is to use a tape loop, if your receiver has one. The tape loop is used for monitoring during recording and the EQ will work there. Most modern AV receivers don't have tape loops but some do. The digital connection is not an option. Sorry.

Thanks guys I was scared of that. I dont have a tape loop. I guess for now Ill put it between the CD and reciever and start looking for an amp. I thinking a NAD or Rotel. If amplification was cheaper.

Yes it has preouts. I ordered a EP 2500 ( Behringer) for an IB sub manifold. The DEQis back ordered. A mic, a Behringer BFD 1194 and 4 AE ib 15' subs are on the way. I guess I could use the EP 2500 til my manifold is complete, Gotta get another amp though.

Return the DEQ2496 and get the DCX2496. The DCX is far more powerful. It can do far more things. It is far more versatile. The DCX is even lower in price. It's a win all the way around.

Assuming you get the DCX per my suggestion, do not bother with the internal receiver xovers and amplifiers, at least for the front 3 channels. Run the preouts for L, C and R to the DCX and use it for xover and fr adjustment of the mains and subwoofers. The DCX has 3 inputs and 6 outputs. You can configure each one independently. This lets you be able to control the L, R and C and control up to 3 subs separately. You can get inexpensive high quality amps for the front channels. Just get AudioSource AMPONE. You can get them for 130-150 each, new, online. Since the AudioSource amps have unbalanced inputs that expect rather lower voltage inputs(compared to pro audio gear like the DCX), you should use some 6dB or higher in line passive attenuators to the amps from the DCX. Partsexpress.com sells such adapters under the brand Harrison Lab.

Never read anything on the DCX. Kind of late tonight to start. Ill look into it over the weekend. Since the DEQ is still out of stock I could change it before monday, no problem. Does the DCX do full room sweeps?

The DCX does not do full room sweeps. But I must warn you, the DEQ does not do so in a way that you should use, either. The DEQ only has a general sweep and correction process for PA use, which is an effectively FREE FIELD environment. It's not intended to correct ROOM response errors, which vary substantially from what is effective in a free field environment.

Well its too late. The DEQ had shipped. Guitar Center said it was on backorder. So I thought I had a few more days. They do have a thirty day return policy. If i dont like it Ill send back.

I got this resonse from Onkyo. I dont think the tech guy knows the reciever. The back of the reciever isnt labeled in terms he used. LOL you think he would have a manual.

You would have to hookup the pre outs to the EQ and then the speakers to the EQ. Or you can use the tape 2 inputs and make sure that tape 2 monitor is engaged.
