Hi,

Hey, I have a Yamaha RX-V2500, an Old Sony TV, and a DVD/VCR Combo Player. The combo player has component video, S-video and regular RCA output.

Which video(s) output from the combo player should I connect to the Yamaha receiver? Even though all video signal ends at the yellow RCA input on my Sony (that's all it has), is there any advatage in using the S-Video output of the DVD/VCR over the yellow coax input, or the Component over the S-video? Will I see any difference in my 'ol 640x480 Sony?

Thanks much in advance,

Greg

Hi, Greg. I don't believe that there is any advantage at all in using S-video from the DVD/VCR to the receiver if you are using composite video from the receiver to the TV. The only time that it would be of value is if the composite video output on the DVD/VCR is faulty or if the composite video input on the receiver is faulty.

EDIT: I missed part of your post, or you updated it. The same is true for running component video from the DVD/VCR to the receiver.

EDIT 2: I just checked the owner's manual for the 2500. It can't downconvert component video to composite video, so that connection wouldn't even be an option for you - so you don't need to worry about it. :)

I dont know if you also have a cable box hooked up to this system but if its only the dvd player you might as well bypass running the video through the reciever entirely if youve only got one video source as there is no advantage to running it through the reciever. Unless you have an on screen display i suppose that you use.
