Step Down Transformers puzzle

Hi all,
Sorry for venturing off the same subject here for a moment, but at the risk of sounding a complete clod, I thought I would enlist the help of anyone knowledgeable in these forums in the subject of step down transformers. I was thinking of buying a Marantz 2270 from a USA dealer. I'd be so grateful if anyone here might give me a guideline as to which step up transformer I would need to buy to enable me to use it in the UK? The only other transformer available to buy is the second one below, which doesn't give ampage.
I may also wish to run more than one Marantz receiver. I have no idea of the ampage or wattage though!
_______________________________________
HEAVY DUTY 240V TO 110V CONVERTER FOR LARGER LOADS
STEP DOWN TRANSFORMER
1000 watts, 8.30 Amps
1500 watts 12.5 Amps
2000 watts 16.6 Amps
3000 watts 25 Amps
_______________________________________
240V TO 110V CONVERTER 100 TO 300 WATTS
STEP DOWN TRANSFORMER
300 watts
500 watts

So grateful for any help anyone can give here.
From a very "novice" novice!

if you are in the UK, you are gonna need a step down transformer because:

your electricity there is 240v and your marantz is 110v - so power needs to step down :)

(if I were to use a step down transformer on a receiver, i'd make sure it was capable of about 1000w)

Thanks for the quick reply! I'll go for a 1500 to be safe I think. Still confused about the ampage though, the shop is asking for this but it's not on the back of the receiver?

im not sure but the local electricians count amperage by dividing the wattage by the voltage ...

1500 w divided by 240 v = 6.25A
we over here compute by using 220v = 6.81A

but the bigger the amperage, the better. :)

what are the amperage options on their step down transformers?

you can see that the following Amps were derived by dividing the wattage by 120v
STEP DOWN TRANSFORMER
1000 watts, 8.30 Amps
1500 watts 12.5 Amps
2000 watts 16.6 Amps
3000 watts 25 Amps

I thought I would add, The response you got on the audioreview forums is completely bogus, Nothing is going to go up in a show of fireworks. Step down transformers are not rocket science. Infact they are extremely simple, durable and straightforward devices. Just make sure you get one rated for what you'll need. Something rated for 1000 watts would be more than enough. Even 500 watts would probably more than cut it.

On the back of the reciever there will be a power consumption rating. Current (amperage) is wattage divided by voltage, which would be 120v as Mike pointed out.

If you know what amperage the step down transformer is rated to output and want to figure out wattage its current x voltage

Thanks!

Cheers, that's a great help, banishes some of the "current" confusion!

you're welcome!

which new arrivals are you talking about? :)
Ooo-er... You mention it's "12 days til Ultra 5 and 6 arrives"
Groan, it's too early in the morning for me...I assumed you meant the 2 "arrivals" pictured. Time for coffee to wake up.
