I am having trouble setting up my home theatre system. I have 2 front and 1 center speaker, subwoofer and 4 surround speakers. I also have 2 speakers running out to our patio connected to the front B/zone2 extra speaker connections. This is where the problem occurs. I can't seem to figure out how to have just the patio speakers operating without the other speakers also playing. Can anyone help with this?

Front "B" speakers and Zone 2 are not the same thing on most receivers. Zone 2 usually has a separate volume control and can be driven by a separate source than what the main system is playing. The B speakers just play whatever is playing on A, at the same volume. This may or may not be true with your receiver, since I am not familiar with that exact model, so take a look at it and let us know. What outputs do you have the patio speakers connected to?

you can connect your extra speakers to Zone 2 or Front B

On page 29 you specify you extra speakers as Zone 2 or Front B.

If you use front B then the music source is the same for Front B and zone 1, you can turn A,B,A+B, all speakers ( see page 38).

If you want a separate music source for Zone 2, then set extra speakers as Zone 2, see pages 72, 82-83, you can set initial and max volume on zone 2. The real details of zone2 are pages 89-91, which tells you how to operate Zone 2 and to set the zone 2 input souce.

Patio speakers are connected to outlets marked as "front B/Zone 2. I'm sure there is some kind of sound management program to direct flow to these speakers alone but I haven't been succesful in finding how to. The manual is very hard for me to understand.

To expand just a bit on what Midcow was saying:

1. Make sure that you have the speaker outputs to which you've connected your patio speakers set to "ZONE2". If you look on page 72 of your owners manual, it describes how to step through the menus to either check this or to set it up that way.

2. On the front panel of your receiver, there is a "MAIN ZONE" button with "ON/OFF" options, and a "MASTER" button with "ON/OFF" options. The "MASTER" button is for power to the receiver. The "MAIN ZONE" button is for power to your main speakers (i.e. everything but your patio speakers). I believe that you can have the patio speakers on, but the main speakers off, if you have the "MASTER" power set to on, but the "MAIN ZONE" power set to off.

If you have any questions or problems with these, just let us know and we'll help you through it.

EDIT: BTW, welcome to the forum! Good to have you here.

Actually, to complicate matters, since your running a 7.1 setup for your main zone, you need a separate amp to power zone 2 for starters.

That's not true for the Yamaha 661, as best that I can tell.
