Off white and Black are the 2 best selling colors in the standard fabric. After that, it's the coffee color.

The 242 will give you a little more high frequency absorption than the others as they're designed to deliberately not absorb so much in the highs so one can get good bass control without overdoing high frequency deadening.

Don't get me wrong, all of them will offer some high frequency absorption.

As for vertical placement, it's kinda dependent on the situation, the particular room, etc.

For the thickness, it's going to vary depending on application. 242's for reflection duties, Tri Traps in corners, 244's or Monsters on the rear wall to help with nulls off the back, etc.

Thank you very much, Bryan.

I boldfaced parts of your first sentence that seem a bit contradictory to me. I presume that you recommend 242 panels for high freq and/or first reflections.

As I mentioned I have a bit of slap echo, and so am thinking of HF. However, if the HF properties are pretty comparable between the 242 and 244 I would go for the thicker if only to help the reflection points with greater broadband performance.

I cannot do a 45 deg angle at the corners, but I can do something like 20 degrees is my guess; better than nothing. The vertically aligned panels will cover more sidewall than front wall, but at least with some air gap.

Thanks so much. I look forward to ordering soon. Maybe even today.

. . . between the 242 and 244. . .
Well, I just ordered both! haha. off-white.

Bryan, I've researched acoustical cotton on a touch and go basis, and my last google search on it brought up some of your posts from a couple years ago or so.

I always thought that it was only available in bulk, but after calling, they are willing to even sell individually. I have a different issue I'm curious about.

I just got a new center speaker yesterday, that sits on the floor. I've decided to put it on top of a Real Trap HF mini trap laid out length-wise (to fit between two Mondotraps on the floor), to help reduce reflections from the floor. Visually it should work fine for all viewing positions most of the time. I am concerned with blockage of video when the film is 16:9, if I want to recline. 16:9 is pretty rare, especially since I don't even receive TV programming.

So, to make a long story short, I'll cut to the chase:

Is acoustical cotton a dumb idea when having a 25 lb speaker sitting on it?

I was thinking of making a cross with two 2" 2x4 pieces, with the speaker sitting right in the middle.

After asking about how easily compressible the stuff is, the rep said "quite" (and he also said after 5 yrs on the job, I'm the very first to ask about such an application). I presume this negates the properties I'm looking for. Perhaps, I can place the stuff on the floor, but around the speaker. I can hide the stuff under the rugs (zero traffic up front).

Hm. After all that typing, I think I might just leave it as is . . . but, still curious for your advice or thoughts.
