Best recomended guide/book for HT

I am looking for a really good book on home theatre. I want one that explains acoustics, video formats, and so on. Many guides out there, what would you guys recommend to get a good start?

The internet holds a wealth of information. One nice place to start browsing is right here. If you go to the Audioholics home page, the menu that is near the top of the page has two good sections on it..."AV University" and "Tips & Tricks". Both of those have sub-menus. The AV University might be a good start for you.

thanks i noticed. i am kind of the guy that likes printed page though. anything general audio video standards and set up that gets your pro praise?

I don't personally know of any, but I haven't looked into it. I'd say take a look at the one that Djizasse recommended. Hopefully some others will chime in here, too, as I'm sure that there's a few people who know of some good ones.
