The threat to CDs comes from downloads. Vinyl is a niche market, and always will be. Sure, a few audio hobbyists are into vinyl, but ipods rule the world.

Indie musicians affect CD sales precisely to the extent that they sell their music via downloads. Some do release their music on vinyl, of course, but vinyl will always be a drop in the bucket compared to both CD and downloads.

Ah. Well, as I said, the only way that the indie movement affects CD sales is by marketing via downloads. This is not limited to indie, though.
While I hope it doesn't happen, I can envision downloads replacing CD sales eventually.
(It was natural to assume you were referring to vinyl, since pushing vinyl seems to be your primary agenda.)
