questions about speaker systems

I am looking to buy a speaker system under 10000$ with approximately 1 subwoofer, 2 rear speakers and 2 front speakers. I want to be able to plug it in to my PlayStation 3, Apple Macbook Pro and Sony Bravia W Series 40 Inch HD LCD Flatscreen. If it requires a external receiver then add that to my list also. I play mainly action, shooting and adventure games and listen to punk, metal and the more extremes of metal. More speakers than what I have suggested are welcome. Help would be appreciated.

Would you also like a center channel (for a 5.1 system), or are you specifically trying to avoid it - perhaps because of placement issues? Just wondering if we should add that to the list of things to look at for $1000.

How big of a room are you in? There are some really good speaker systems that are sold as PC systems, but they work pretty well in smaller rooms. In larger rooms, they don't fair quite as well.

I don't know basically anything about speakers so any advice would be good, just suggest something and I'll go try them all out, I live in the country so there is no point me going to the city 100k away without any idea of what I want. My lounge is around 10m by 4m but I would like to be able to listen to them just out the back and in the hall.

Ahhh. 10,000 USD? I only ask because you give distance in metric.

If it's USD, then forget the PC systems. That can get you one seriously nice system. For starters, you could check out the recommended system from the AH staff at this link here.

Check out the B&W 800 series. With that much as a budget you can build a killer B&W system.... There are so many choices out there in that price range all I can suggest is going to a few HI end audio stores and listen. Take some cd's and dvd's that you are familer with and listen to as many different speakers in your price range as you can. I think a 100km drive is not that
bad for something that is going to bring a whole lot of joy to you......

I know it's a lot to ask but specific speakers would be nice, I literally no nothing about speakers, my system now is JBL Creature 2 Speakers. I don't know anything. I'm a property investor, I know about house prices, not speakers.

I would see what brands are available near you or at least in the closest
city to you. You can do a search at audioreview.com for reviews on specific
models that suit your taste...

Everyone has a different way of hearing things so it is really hard to tell
you specific speakers. I would suggest you go to a reputable hi-fi dealer
and give a listen to B&W ,Wharfdale, Jamo, Mordaunt Short, ect....(these
are good brands that I think are available in Australia)could
go on for a while.....Just use your ears and find the sound you like.

The Yamaha VX-863 is a great unit. Denon 4308ci is about 2500 us and the yamaha is 999. You will need alot of power to run the 800ds so you may want to look into receiver that has really hi power or a separate amp such as an Emotiva that has 7 channels..
