Good luck with your system, and welcome to the forum. Please let us know if the ground isolator solves the problem, then we will know we have at least one satisfied customer!

real quick, where would be the optimal spot for this? i have easy access to the main cable line coming into the house before it splits off to the rest of the outlets. should i put it there? or just stick with as close to the cable box as possible?

Put it between the cable wall outlet and your cable box. If you put it ahead of that, you run the risk of getting ground loops from other gear connected to your system downstream of your isolator. So anywhere between your cable box and the wall outlet it is connected to will be fine.
