Have you reconsidered the budget to meet your needs. Seriously, the cheapest decent receiver will be about $200. The cheapest decent subwoofer will be about $200. Even at that, that's the bottom of the list equipment. Do your own math for the number of speakers you want. Something's gotta give, either the budget or the expectations.

tweeter has the polk monitor 50 for 225 pair, cs1 center 120, add a yama463 300, bic h100 sub 250... thats 895(a little less than my center channel) for a 3.1 that will give you some wow as a starter

I would check out the Yamaha VX-663. There are many choices for speakers out there have you listened to any yet? It depends on what you want to spend.
Epos makes some good speakers and right now on Audiogon.com there is a 5.1 set for 300......You might want to consider used and upgrade later.....
