Hi everyone.

I am writing as an audio newbie with some electreonics nackground and extensive computing knowledge, I am setting up outdoor speakers in my house in the form of 2x TIC rock speakers in the backyard and yet undetermined speakers in my front patio.

So I have a couple of questions hopefully someone can help me with.

1) Is there any books to read with regards to setting up a good audio system I am see pre-amps, pro amps, power amps etc etc but am a little confused what I will need to drive my rock speakers (300watts each). How would something like this be setup.

2) I am also looking for a schematic diagram for a speaker selector so I can switch between the speakers in the front pation and the speakers in the back yard or have both running simultaneously.

3) I am also trying to find outdoor volume controls for my back yard that can handle the types of speakers I have, the only ones I can find are from Outdoor Speakerstore but they dont match the power of my speakers hopefully someone on here knows where I can get something similar but with a greater power rating or maybe even has a circuit diagram of something I can build.

Thanks for the help and sorry for the newbie questions

Is this system you want going to be used in conjunction with one you all ready have?

Niles makes all the products your looking for. Example as follows
Sources>Intergrated Amp>Speaker Selector>Volume Control>Speaker
You will need to know your speaker rating in order to match equipment properly.

speaker selector

Well I already have the TIC Rock speakers I also have a ONKYO AMP but it isnt capable of driving those speakers at 300watts not that I think I will need to run them at that volume. But the speaker selectors and volume controls I dont have I also dont have the ceiling speakers..

Also note the cabling I have run for the speakers is 10AWG Low voltage electrical cabling rather then OFC.

Thanks for your help

the important information for your speakers is the minimum ohm rating and sensitivity. If you push those speakers to more than 30w it would be excessive. The 300w rating would be maximum peak that the speaker would handle( I doubt even outside you could hit 1/2 of that at a peak). Your amp could very well be more than capable of handling the job, again specs are what is needed. Did you look at the link provided? Do you have an idea of the type of setup you will be running?

The speakers are 8ohm speakers with a operating wattage of 150watts RMS300Watts here is a link to the speakers http://www.ticcorp.com/outdoor_speaker_sp10300_spec.htm

What I am looking at doing is having a speaker selector in the house to select the zone I want to play and having volume controls outside in the area I will be listening to the music similar to these ones http://www.outdoorspeakerstore.com/user/searchresults.php?mode=search&catid=67

Imran
