What is a good Camorder around $250-$350?

What should I look for? I have a sister-in-law that wants to buy one for her daughter and while my audiophile knowledge is pretty good my camcorder knowledge isn't.

What assessories are needed?

Thanks in advance :)

CNET has a very robust buying guide that lays everything out:

From what I gather just from a quick Best Buy search, I think that's going to be a harder price point to hit. Many of the branded camcorders that I recognize don't seem to start until $300 or $350.

I was looking around for a comcorder a few months ago. Honestly, if you have an HDTV you're better of taking the plunge and get a decent HD camcorder for around $700. I didnt even up buying one, by Christmas or later, I expect HD camcorders to sell for around $500. I decided to hang on to my hi-8 camcorder til then.

CamcorderInfo.com has all the information you would ever want to know about camcorders along with very in-depth reviews; far more detailed than Cnet.

I bought a cheap Panasonic camcorder a couple years ago and it has performed flawlessly. The video quality is is very good and it is very easy to use.
