You probably need a software update. Every time the criminals bust the code, the sewers in Hollywood change it, so you need an update. Sony to steal a march on the competition seem to have made the PS3 to not recognize this form of DRM

Blue Ray is on my boycott list currently. It likely will be permanent.

What's the PS3 got anything to do with it? He has a Panasonic BD-30 lol.

I know he has a Panasonic! That is why he has the problem. Sony are also studio owners, and somehow they have made the PS3 to ignore the flags related to increasingly stringent DRM. This is a ploy of dubious ethics to increase PS3 sales.

Call Panasonic. They're very good about dealing with issues. Also, consider the possibility that the disc is defective.

What can you playback with your DMP BD-30,

SD DVD?
another BD?
a CD?

none of the above?

I bet this is another example of DRM gone mad. I would expect issues like these.

To have a system where the studios can change the DRM from in a format on a continuous basis is ridiculous. These systems are complicated, and to expect the manufacturers to get the code for each update right to suit the studios whims is not a reasonable system.

As long as this form of DRM is part of BD, it will stay on my boycott list.

All of the above work just fine. I notices the recording date on the Disc say 2008. Could it be to advance????

I say just take back the BD-30 and get a PS3... your sig line still says you need to buy a blu ray player.

If there is more than one BD movie to be unplayable, then there's a problem. Otherwise, it could be that specific Tchaikovsky BD disc that is defective.

That is always the advice given with that issue. What a pox! I don't want a game player, or a BD player that is a tower. It is about time the other manufacturers got the balls to take the studios on, and make players that ignore these stupid DRM codes. Sony obviously have with the PS3 and that has undercut the arguments of the fancy lawyers representing the absolute sewers inhabiting Hollywood.

I would have said get a PS3 even before I knew about any potential issues, and who cares if it's a game console. It's one of the best blu ray players out, and is always getting updates, it's extremely easy to update, and can do so many other things besides play games and movies. And since it's priced about the same or less as any other quality blu ray player out, it doesn't make sense to not at least consider it, even if you don't like Sony.

I will never consider it, or any other player I have to update for this DRM nonsense. We need a federal BAN on DRM in all its forms, and let the chips fall!

That sucks man. I plugged in the composer at the AVS owner's thread, no hits. I'd mention it though. The Panny folks seem to try their best.

I've lost count on how many titles have gone thru my BD-30. Well over 50 for sure. Only one bad experience ever, or dropout of ANY kind, or any hiccup, and that was Sunshine. Haven't thrown it in since, however...

Are you sure you need to update FW? I have no need. Then again, I feel my player runs extremely smoothly. Does all I ask of it. I can even leave it on pause for hours at a time, still no problem, unlike my HD-DVD player...

I called Pany, and informed them of my problem. They said it is a possibility that there are new codes on the disc. they are going to test the disc and get back with me. Here comes firmware update 2.5 lol

David, I forgot to mention that you will want to update to at least 1.6. This is to fix the -5db cut in the LFE. I think I have the disc somewhere, I can mail it to you if want... if you are throwing your hands up getting the FW to take. AVS moderator mark rubin sent me his, and Id be happy to pass along the goodwill. Then again, if you update, might as well go current. Just so you know, most people say not to update unless you feel you need to. They say this about all electronics, receivers, not just BDP's. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

Oh cool. Then you're fine... the FWs include past improvements. I was just offering in the case you couldn't get any FW to take. I had recently changed to Vista OS, and was having one #%!*&#^! of a time making a FW disc that would work.
