SVS 25-31 pci Custom 20Hz tuning upon request

So I will either order the pb12-nsd or the 25-31 pci tuned to 20 hrz. Does anyone have expierience with this sub tuned to 20hrz.
I really like the look of the cylinder subs over the box subs. I'm drawn to the 25-31 becuase the others are so GD tall. So when I saw that they custom tune this one to 20, I thought that may be my solution. I wonder what I'd be giving up in other performance though.

I'll tell you right now, I dont plan on running subs real loud. I just want audible bass down to 20hrz, and it would be nice to feel bass below 20 hrz, but I might not get that on my budget and size constraints.

In addition to the comments that you get here, I recommend that you also ask SVS. They have always been upfront with me about their products, and they'll tell you what you'll be giving up by doing that tune. My guess is that you'll give up some volume in the 25-40Hz range in order to gain the deeper tune.

I think that with room gain, you would get bass down to about 20 hz. without a custom tune, but they use the port from the 20-39 PCi for the custom tune, and you will give up some overall SPL/headroom. I would contact SVS with your room dimensions and your listening habbits and they can advise whether or not a 20hz. tuned 25-31 PCi would be the best way to go.

The only thing you will be giving up is a little output above 20hz. If you don't like to listen real loud you will most likely not miss it. It should sound great. Enjoy.

22Hz Tuning...

SPL is the only thing you'll lose w/the lower tune. I would suggest a 22Hz tune as opposed to 20Hz. In fact, I've seen the 25-31 PCi 22Hz request quite a few times.

While the 22Hz as opposed to 20Hz a small difference, I think it might be a better balance of SPL and extension in that size enclosure.

In fact, I'm not so sure you'd be able to tell the difference between a 20Hz and 22Hz tuning as the roll-off would be very close. Either way, 20, 22 or even the standard 25 tuning, I'm sure you'll be very pleased with the output as well as exension, the PCis are all excellent performers for the money... -TD

Thanks for your suggestions! I'm sure I'll be blown away no matter what because I have never owned a subwoofer before. I'm trying to make sure that I'll be happy with it for a long time. Calling SVS now.

Well, they recommended that with a room my size they would not reccomend tuning the 25-31 any lower. I still want to tune it to 22hrz, because even though my room is large (30x15x8) I don't see myself listening to it super loud, I would rather have depth than output.

That is a sizable room, but very similar to mine in dimensions and the 20-39 PCi did just fine in output and extension... -TD

It's not the cost that makes my shy away from the 20-39 its the size, that thing is huge. I do have a lot of space in the room but that thing is massive.

It's only like 8 inches taller, all the cylinder subs are the same diameter. Is your room only 35 inches tall or something?

Yeah my room is 40 inches tall so that doesn't leave much room between the sub and the ceiling. When I saw a picture on google images of some lady standing next to one and it was over half her height that suprised me. I'm a total newb when it comes to this stuff I have never seen a sub very big at all. It just completly changed what I thought big was. Whole nother level.

Mike C That might not be bad advice about the pb12nsd. At least that one is in stock right now, and if it goes the lowest then that might be the one for me. I already ordered the 22-31 but they are out of stock for a few more weeks on the cylinder subs. Who wants to wait around anyway? Or can?

Currently I am in the process of saving up some coin for a new sub. The 31's are more appealing because they're slightly shorter than my mains which stand at 34". The 39's will make them look small and I recently switched from bookshelves on stands to floors, therefore I'll adhere to your advice and save for the pb12nsb.

I have a 20-39 PC+ and when I stand next to it it comes up to my belt, and I'm 5'10". It is tall, but it's so worth it, and it makes a great conversation piece. It used to be taller than my front speakers, but then I got bigger fronts and now it doesn't look disproportionate.

I know.. . My wife gave me the go ahead to buy my speakers and it boiled down to the more expensive 50's or the 30's and centre channel. My budget was set at $1500 max(the wife is the accountant)and so, I opted for 3 speaker, rather than 2.

Billy, take it from someone who owns the 20-39+ and RC30s, unless you place the sub directly behind one of the towers, it just looks wrong. It really dwarfs the towers.

I just got an email from UPS, and the pb12-nsd is enroute. I hope it doesn't ruin my house by shaking it apart.
